Senryu (A short Japanese style poem, similar to haiku in structure, however, senryu tend to be about human foibles while haiku tend to be about nature, and senryu are often cynical or darkly humorous and satiric while haiku are serious)

Kinda like GOTCHA! Love IT!!!
(Goodness, I've heard of people looking for their glasses while the glasses have been pushed up on top of their heads... and I thought I topped that yesterday by looking for mine to read a note on a table - and there they were- on TOP of the NOTE... but this one beats everything And begs the question - what made you think they were missing to begin with?? )
Very, very clever and entertaining, Socrates!!! Genius at work!!!

SCatlyn Thanks for your comment. I think your episode is even more interesting than my poem. Were you actually looking at the note and not seeing the glasses on them, if even for a brief moment, before it finally dawned on you that they were there? I think that the reason why such incidents occur, including the one I have described, is due to "selective focusing" of the mind. This happens when a person's thoughts are so strongly focused on a specific issue or matter that he/she may momentarily lose awareness of things in his/her environment.
Now, to deal with your question: "what made you think they were missing to begin with??" The person became aware that they were missing, when he/she disengaged his/her thought process from focusing on some specific matter, and decided he/she wanted to read something using his/her glasses. The attention then shifted to getting the glasses. This is when he/she asked the question: "where are my glasses?" For that brief moment, he/she did not realise that they were already sitting on his/her nose.
May I ask, in your case, was your mind focused on something else, just prior to your search for your glasses?
This is said to be one of the eccentricities of genius. I read that Isaac Newton, the famous scientist, was leading his horse holding on to the reins while walking in the countryside. He was so deeply engrossed in thought, probably on some project that he was working on, that he did not realise that the reins had come loose from the horse as he kept on walking, still deep in thought, dragging the reins behind him. After some time had passed, someone asked him why he was dragging the reins behind him. It was only then he realised that the horse was gone. Such is the power of selective focusing.

You GOT IT, Socrates!!! I was looking at the note on the small table right next to me with the glasses on the note at the same time.
(But when I was looking at the note thinking, "I need to go find my glasses to read what's on the note - btw-the note had, among other things, the time written down of when I'd taken my last ADHD-attention deficit med.- and when the next time was due- so I was going to see if it was time yet... therefore obviously hadn't noticed the glasses right there-lol --and off I went to search the most likely places they would be, came back to the small table to see if they could be hidden behind the lamp or some such... and that's when I just went ... b/c there they were on the note - I was in amazement that I had not seen them when I had specifically looked at the paper at about 2 feet distance from me.)
Yes, I'm sure it must be that 'selective' thing you mentioned, Socrates - but don't know if it was caused by something else on my mind or if my med was past due- there's a good chance of the latter, since I can't even remember now if it had been past due(if the med hasn't expired in my system, I am usually able to recall that indeed I was NOT late in taking it) And while I know a person doesn't have to be ADHD for this to happen, it makes a HUGE difference in short-term memory, and just like anyone else, getting older only makes it worse
Hope that's not too hard to follow .
Isaac Newton and the horseless reins
Thanks so much for the reply, and the answer to my question. Enjoyed all of it very much!!! SCatlyn

Having read your answer to my question, I suggest that your mind was very much preoccupied with the taking of the medication at the due time. The information on the note would help to determine this. It is possible you were so focused on looking at the note, for the information, that you did not notice the glasses on the note even though you were also looking for them at the same time. This may have been a case of "selective focusing" on the note, (and not on the glasses).

Odette Thanks for your comment. It supported what SCatlyn said earlier: "I've heard of people looking for their glasses while the glasses have been pushed up on top of their heads..." You may have read what I said in my response to her comment about "selective focusing".
Do you have any suggestion as to why, during your search for your glasses, you did not realise that they were on your head at the time? If you do,I would love to hear it. Have a wonderful day!

You think - your nose is hardest
Place to find glasses!
When they disappear
On forehead in t-shirt who
will not laugh loudly?

Well there you go, don't
You think - your nose is hardest
Place to find glasses!
When they disappear
On forehead in t-shirt who
will not laugh loudly?
and I stated my understanding of what a senryu is.
You wrote elsewhere:
"Half haiku - senryu actually"
Author: FargoFan
Are those two pieces you posted senryus
seeing that you posted them in
the comment section under my senryu?
Is each one a half haiku?
In what way?
Furthermore, you should not post your poems
In the comment section of another person's poem.
Post your poems and invite comments for them separately
from other persons' poems.
That is and has been the norm here at Poet's Corner.
Nose with eyeglasses
but perhaps out of joint - well
seems rather snooty!
aha yep i must try this loved yours
Take Care.
