How long does it hurt?
years go by
and still it does
a glimpse, a vision
reminds you of what was not to be
yet as much as you know
that it could not be
your heart still wants, desires
what it cannot have
the tears glisten in the eyes
the sobs catch in your throat
but reality remains
the hurt stays with you
it takes courage to not let it consume you
and still it does

Yes, sometimes it is the strangest things remind of a hurt that was long ago.
