WASTING TIME
Author: Unknown
Long ago you felt on top
Then you fell too low
and just kept droppin'
Now the more you lose
the less you try
So with hype and silver spoon
You're high again
then down too soon
And the less you take
the more you cry
(CHORUS)
"Well, I'm all right
I'm OK
I just need time"
Yeah, it's what you tell me
Yeah, it's what you say
I used to rock
while you would role
You'd stay to talk
and smoke a bowl
Then you'd tell me dreams
while you were high
You want to soar
in giant jets
But felt too sore
from losing bets
And the model planes you build
won't fly
(CHORUS)
But "I'm all right
I'm OK
I just need time"
Yeah, it's what you tell me
when you feel this way
"I'm all right"
Ooh, but you're feelin' low
"I'm OK"
So you're doing just fine?
"I just need time"
But I guess you already know,
that you can't help dreams

About this poem:
I wrote this decades ago for an old acquaintance of mine, Louie, who often stopped by to listen to our practice jams and sometimes run our light show. Quite the socialite conversationalist he was, and handsome lady's man ("competition", at the time ...lol ; ) despite our different views about using drugs - I'm not judgemental of others choice to indulge, though I prefer to restrain from their abuse. But even then I knew that he spent far too much time frontin' instead of gruntin', never quite getting his priorities straight (ie, "Business before Pleasure", etc.) He never really grasped that this song was about him, despite my pep talks with him. Ironically, years later, I found out that he had overdosed on recreational drugs. Any more I am more vocal about cautioning those who will listen about the dangers they seem oblivious to (Read also "The 'Pillar" for inspiring that particular sect of individuals). Well, I hope posting this wasn't a Waste of Time.
