The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

dear moonlove.....another of my favourite poems, I take it to mean that the path that he has taken is one that many others do not take, because it may be harder, or more difficult, but on the other hand more exciting and in the end more rewarding.....About life choices really......my interpretation.......xxx

Hi moonlove yes this is a great poem. In life we have choices in everything, it's often said to take the road less traveled. When we choose that it's what helps us grow in a more individual way, rather than following the pack or the heard an becoming all the same. Take a chance in life an truly live it in your own unique way. I hope this offers some understanding to some of Frosts writing. Be blessed:)

I, too, share your love of this poem. Thank you for bringing it to our attention!

Every moment in life is what I call a watercolor moment ... something we give to the universe that cannot be taken back, with the accumulation of all defining who we are. Life is full of choices and opportunities; and, although the paths were worn about the same, the first step of the morning was on untrodden leaves...a fresh start...a personal, defining choice that has made all the difference. The path less traveled by was that of the leader who did not follow in the footsteps of others, but rather led the way.

I remain intrigued by the title and the sigh - and the poem, at once simple and complex.

Hello moonlove,
Yes it's true that the road less traveled ,is the harder road, that if taken..is indeed harder, and not as popular as the other.But,we all know that it is through the trials in our lives, that our character,is being formed.Anytime we go against our natural,yearning,or say no to the ones wanting us to do something we know is wrong..we are taking the road less traveled. Go against the flow.

yes Moonlove, it is about the choices we make in this life, do we take the easy path of life or the one more difficult, but has greater experiences
