The paper ready for the task The feather firm in hand The light turned up for perfect glow The inkwell in its stand.
The curtains drawn, no noise to hear The world lies fast asleep The peace of night, the best of time For thoughts to travel deep.
But while it all seems perfect set With everything in place The poet gently hesitates Not moving in his space.
Why does the pen not fill the blank? What is he waiting for? The midnight oil is burning fast He soon will need some more.
Then through the silence, through the still A hand reaches for his - No artist ever works alone He needs the Muse's kiss...
(dedicated to H.C. Anderson) (written 2004)

About this poem:
This is one of a few poems I wrote inspired by paintings by Marcel Lorange. He liked the poems and asked me to make a book with him, but I ended pulling out as my creativity dies away under the pressure of expectations and having to deliver *slaps self* but I did dearly enjoy writing the poems I did write for his paintings. His use of warm colours really soothes me somehow, and this is definitely one of my favourite paintings ^^
