dont wish your choices had been more brave when you stand alone beside my grave dont reach for that special touch of my hand when its well entombed on hallowed land dont long for the sound of my silly mirth when im laying beneath the fresh-laid turf dont smile your best smile, eyes all aglow when my eyes are tight shut, I will not know dont whisper"I love you" "you were the one" when my hearing days are over and done dont waste your tears or heave a sigh when I've waved your mortal world goodbye

I think this poem conveys quite well how many older persons feel towards their children and friends who do not keep in touch with them while they are still alive but show up at their funeral and burial, i.e., "Give me my roses while I am still alive and not lilies after I die". Thanks for posting! Have a great day!

Don't whisper I love you.........when my hearing days are over.....
Can I tell how often I have seen this happen. How often I have wished it does not happen in my case. Love the poem....great write. Had to send a double hug.
