Two Teenagers

Today I sat and read
All those words we wrote before
And I came to realize
It was a mirage
And not a door.

Where did I go wrong?
What was it I saw?
Was it just the past
I saw through the eyes
Of that teenage girl in love?

Then I read the words
You sent to me the last
And I feel a chill
When even the mirage
Splinters like a glass.

As I say goodbye
To that boy and girl that was
I wipe away a silent tear
And wish you
Happiness and love.

About this poem:
A few years ago I ran into my first love. We started talking about getting back together, but it didn't quite work out, as I had still not recovered from my broken heart after my marriage broke up. The sad part is that I wish we had left those two teenagers in the past, where they belong. Because now even the sweet memories from all those years ago, are haunted by what happened after. He will always be my first love, though. (MAV)
