Life Happens

Our mother was taken suddenly in a tragic accident.
Our father at the wheel.
I struggled with emotions as I tried to hold it together for my family.
Waiting around for the detective to call.
It took a year before we heard those magic words, case closed.
Finally we could mourn the loss of our mother without wondering if we might lose our father too.

About this poem:
My father accidentally ran my mother over when i was 20 and my brother 18. As we waited for the case to be decided it tore our family apart. My mothers family was extremely upset that me and my brother stuck by our fathers side. After the case was closed we tried to mend fences and now can all sit in the same room and talk.
