LOVE

Love possesses not
nor would it be possessed
for love is sufficient unto love

And think not that you can direct
the course of love
for love
if it finds you worthy
directs your course

But let there be spaces
in your togetherness
and let the winds
of the heavens
dance between you

Love one another
but make not a bond of love
Let it rather be a moving sea
between the shores of your souls

Sing and dance together
and be joyous
but let each one of you
be alone

Even as the strings of a lute
are alone
but they quiver with
the same music

And stand together
yet too near together
For the pillars of the temple
stand apart
And the oak tree and the cypress
grow not in each other's shadow

That surely is an expression of a good deep love.
I do not know what else to say but yes I agree.

I was reading it and I was so flabbergasted and then realize it was a quote...My favorites and all my source of inspiration.

You almost gave me a heart attack Socrates as I can memorize these all too well.

Hi beautifulyou

Thank you for your comment.

I have always felt, about "life and living", as to who is living who, in exactly the same way that you mentioned, and even wrote in down in one of my "reflections":

"We do not live life;
it is life that lives us"

Have a beautiful day!

So beautiful.
I am embarking, I hope, on a loving relationship.
Something denied me up to now in this life.
This "sets the goalposts" for me.
Thank you for this clear vision ahead.

Hi Mick
Thanks for your comment.
These are Kahlil Gibran's words. I simply quoted them.

I think that offer valuable advice to those who are in a relationship, whether married or not.

It is important to have "spaces in your togetherness" for two persons, no matter how close they are to each other, will always remain two persons.

Have a nice day!

Hi, socrates44,
...the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other's shadow. So much wisdom that you have quoted from "The Prophet" by Kahlil Gibran. Thanks for sharing. It's good to be reminded.

I am glad you enjoyed Gibran's thought.
Perhaps what you have referred to is the secret of a successful relationship, one in which there are "spaces in togetherness".
Have a nice day!
