Broken heart

Just another
Broken heart

She sips her
Tea on
A rainy day

Lipstick on her
Cup mixed
With tears

She glances at
The cracked
Mirror which sees
Her forced smile
Fade into a
Quivering lip

The house is cold
And she pulls her
Yellow robe to
Her neck

Her Persian cat
Stares blankly at
The tapping of
Rain on the
Window

The sounds of
Silence close in
On her taunting
Memories

A widower for
Five years her
Soul is weary
Hoping against
Hope

Like a whisper
She remembers
A letter she recieved
From a highschool
Boyfriend

A letter she kept
Buried in and old
Book in the
Attic

By candle light she
Made her way to
The rusty old chest
In the attic

She found the letter
And a fading
Phone number

She called him as
The rain beat harder
On the house

"Do you remember me,
She asked him?"

There was a long
Silence

Then he spoke, " Do
You have any idea
How long I have
Loved you?"

Her quivering lip
Turned to a
Joyful smile

And the cat stared
Blankly at
The rain
