The price of a kiss

How can it be
that when we see
that

which

we most want
it oft eludes
our

grasp

ever so slightly?

Does it mean to
be ever so
tantalizing

tempting

and yet so far?
Our instincts approve
yet

somehow

we cannot touch.

Eyes that beckon us
onward, upward
ever

forward

lo, there is more
to

this

feeling.

The meaning, significance
inducing an enigmatic
trance

wrapping

us in a blanket of doubt
Do

we

or don't we?

Go ahead, indulge thy heart
passion will set you free
but

also

isn't passion a prison?
Contractual

obligational

engagement to another soul?

Contact on flesh
lip

to

lip

to

lip

to

lip

The aftermath unfolds
what have we done?
Now

they

stare at us
awkwardly

walking

away from us.
To be seen no more.

About this poem:
When i wrote it, I formatted it so those one word lines jutted out from the regular margin, sort of like lips in profile I guess

i really like this poem, and as Jazz said it's structure. i have to disagree with a point however. i don't believe "passion a prison?
Contractual" it's as you said given freely. ;-)
