I agree...I hadn't dated in quite a few years before I joined here...for the same reasons...by choice because I refuse to settle.......

Just as much as society conditions one to be 'male' or 'female' it seems that a lot loook on someone who is single by choice as some sort of abnormality.

I have been asked loadfs of times, but why are you still on your own?

And when I answer becasue i like it so, i get stared at.

I hear ya..that's because some people assume that because you are single there has to be something wrong with you...It never enters their mind that it could be by your own choice....After years of putting up with B.S. and long term relationships that eventually just became a waste of time...I decided no more....that I will hold out for the right man this time because I would rather be single than end up in another long-term relationship with the wrong man...and all the crap it brings in the end!!!!!!!!!

Personally it was the best choice for me..it really gave me an opportunity to reflect on exactly what it is I want and what it is I won't except in a relationship....I always was one to take a long break in between relationships anyway...but this time I am sticking to my guns because I won't waste anymore of my time...I don't know how some people do it that constantly jump from one relationship to another...like they are afraid to ever be alone for any length of time!!!!!!!!

Once was enough in my case......got married to be 'normal', sort of like all the rest around me.

When seven years later that exercise was sorted out, never again.

Not that i don't enjoy female company.....

Time to stir things up. First, no one is single by choice. You can be single for many reasons but by choice, no one says Gee I like being lonely. I will say that sometimes after a break up a person might choose to have some time alone, but loneliness will catch them in time. I know guys that one might call studs, they remain unmarried and choose to stay that way, but they always have a woman with them, well 95% of the time anyway. Unwillingness to commit is normal as well, but usually these people end up with someone else as well. Being over picky, I have been accused of this one, and due to being guilty it’s probably abnormal, but hey I’m looking for perfection. Ahh, and when I say perfection that just means perfection in my eyes this may not be perfect in someone else’s. BUT, choose to be single IS abnormal. So most likely there is some other underlying reason but your not willing to share.

One may be very lonely even in a full time partnership or being surrounded all the time with others.

Being alone does not necessarily equate to lonely. I agree that very few indeed can survive such situations long term. But there are those of us who do, and definately by choice.

Have been on my own two singlehood feet since 21, got married at 30, single again at 38, and never even craved it otherwise since then.

And believe me, it wasn't due to lack of invitations that it remained so.

It was, is, and bound to remain, a matter of chioce.

You have a good point there, Shadow (OMG! Did I actually say that? ) Anyway, I still say it depends on the person in question...some are oblivious, some are playing around, some are fakes, so on and so forth

Guess what...I am single by choice because being alone doesn't mean being lonely and outweighs being in a relationship full of crap.....I was in a 10 year marriage...a 2 year relationship after that and then a 5 year relationship.....the culmination resulted in...me saying no more...until the right man comes along...so yeah...I learned to build a relationship with myself...which was the best thing I could have ever done...I know me now inside and out...and I am not about to or will not settle.....being single is not abnormal...society only says it is....it's actually an individual choice!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh and there is no other underlying reason for me being single...other than what I have said...the one thing I have learned is to be totally honest with myself and I have no problems or embarrassment in sharing my choices and why!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
