Depends, if you want to get on with everyone else and find it easier to connect, its better to follow the crowds. But I admire someone who can think for oneself and be interested in what they want to be interested in, not just because everyone else likes/does it, plus people with unfamiliar interests always have something you can learn from
Best to be yourself...whatever that is...natural traits. Its people interacting with you...or not..who will resort to 'classifying' whether you are one of the above. Its not a trait that can or may be chosen by the 'self' ! If you choose an affectation...then you are not being an 'individual' are you?
Being different just for the sake of being different is a pointless a twisted lonely road. Equally, following the herd blindly and following the fad or fashion of the day, then you are really rudderless and drifting at the whims of others.
'To Thine Own Self Be True,' seems to be the best mantra combined with, 'How Important Is It." Trying to please everybody is an impossibility and you end up suiting no one. People will always be at conflict but at least if you learn just to be yourself, then at least one person will be happy.... namely YOU! Takes courage though.
