I would rather have those things on a later date if things went well on the first date. For me the first date is just to see if there will be a second date and I think some men think if they buy you gifts and spend money on dinner they expect favors in return. Of course this does not apply to most of the great guys on the forums.
cataluna: I don't know how to understand your request. The ideal Miss (Universe) wins a man's heart. If you say that women are only interested in money, then I say that men are only interested in the looks of a woman.

The first time I meet him I consider to be a meeting, not a date. Therefore, I would feel uncomfortable if he brought flowers or candy. I'd rather he send flowers to my workplace after I've known him awhile.
aarjon172: Dear Susanne in the USofA since when ever it began, this has been the tradition that the prospective boyfriend brings flowers and or candy too the perspective girlfriend too win her over i am just trying to see how modern love may have changed here!.
(psst and let you know just trying too save a few bucks too) oh that was brillant!
The thing is that 'when ever it began' the boy and girl probably new each other in person. Now, it is different. When you meet for the first time in person, it is not really a date, just an introduction, so I would not like any flowers or candy or whatever. And I would probably want the meeting rather short, coffee or glass of beer and good bye. Then make up my mind if I want to see the guy again. If I want and he wants, this is a date then. But, if you are a guy who will always buy flowers to your girlfriend or wife, buy them. Otherwise don't or she will later be disappointed when you stop buying them.
