You'll find scammers wherever there is the technology to hide behind. Scammers will attempt cons using snail mail, telephone, cyberspace, sometimes even door to door. You find more online, because the technology is like mass marketing. You just put it out there and odds are that you'll get a bite from the millions online. It is a numbers game more often than not. And it has been very lucrative for scammers. Otherwise there would not be so many as they are.
Mate, I hope that you put into your book that people cannot actually really date online. This is a fallacy that enables the scammer to ply his/her craft. People can only become introduced to people, but to date takes really meeting someone....

I have to disagree there, although I suppose it depends how you define "date."

Right on dagosto, this online dating term is proper, your getting to know your prospective lover, etc! If their telling the truth and finally when it comes to the actual face to face, you'll know if they're a fraud or it's true! and allows 2 people to kinda skip the formalities on the real date and move into getting to know each other better part of real dating ie the romantic part! etc!
