montemonte: I always buy a Ford. Right now I have a 2007 Ford Fusion that I bought in 2009 with only 19,000 miles on it. I don't drive much and have put only 20,000 miles on it in five years. It still looks like a new car. I know it's old school thinking but I change the oil every 3,000 miles.
and i've had my near new Euro do a complete computerised shut down and require $5kAUD (bit more than in USD) in work. Fortunately VW footed the bill for that one
But as a single female I'm not taking a chance in old, poor quality cars. A gamble but less of a gamble.
galrads: sure ..... Ford pickup truck maybe; Ford car with emision controls surviving that long is hard to believe... imo
It was an '89 and had a bunch of emission controls on it but nothing compared to the new cars. It's a challenge just to remove spark plugs or even a battery.
oh! duh, that's right you guys up north didn't have the emission controls or have to meet the same emission standards there then like what the feds required here.

I believe the Ontario drive clean program started here in 1999 where we have to get the car tested every two years at a cost of $40 before we can get a new license sticker. Prior to 1999, automakers were putting more focus on emission controls in vehicles in an effort to cut down on smog conditions, especially high in the summer months.

Interesting, I used to work close with Environmental Canada Toronto. They were always blaming Ohio for transporting it's air pollution over the lakes to their communities.
We had to appease them by constantly sending them updates of ambient air quality monitoring conditions in Ohio. Your environmental peoples are good modelars but they don't know did-lee squat about the real science.
Don216: There really is no such thing as an American car now. My 2012 Toyota Avalon sticker said it has 85% North American content. That is one of the highest of any vehicle sold in the USA. Still many people consider it foreign.
if you dont think Toyota is foreign you have my sypathy
when it comes to the mechanical parts, japan car made is common.some of my colleague said, japan parts can possibly fit for otdher car brand..hehe.so,preferably to say JAPAN CAR made.and based on my statistically observe.
