Jimgeo: These people leave so much pain, so much agony, actually break up families, Yes let them feel a few moments of great pain while the above mentioned feel it for the remainder of thier lives. I think the death penalty should be universal across the USA.Groups like ACLU, religious orginizations should not intefer once sentenence is passed. You bleeding hearts you not the person who bled at the hands of these people. Distance from these people makes you so liberal until it reaches you or one of yours.

Conrad73: even pull the Lever,Switch,or start the Injection? Ever thought what it does to the People who have to carry out the Mandate you nonchalantly are endorsing?
I think in a case of premeditated murder there`s only one thing to do
but nobody has to carry out this punishment unless they take the responsibily
We all have opinions of of whether the Death penalty is just or not.
Ask a victim's family who have lost a loved one and they want the penalty brought back as they say a life for a life.
However The crime has to warrant a death penalty and in case of self defence or manslaughter would you condemn a man/woman. No doubt NO.
Prisons cost and now a days they ask for Human rights. Should they live comfortable or not?
what is the answer in today's society should we ?
My opinion and its my opinion is like this
I believe the death penalty should be brought in to protect victims. those who have a habit of murder more than once, mass killings and extreme cases. Those who commit should be given no rights.
Less cases and ones which can be helped. Then the penalty should be locked in prison and stay in prison.
Thats my opinion and for once Mr Rick has a thread.

no, and why would i? They choose to do it. They live with the consequences. Not my problem, would be if i was a hangman, but i aint.
menu11: Here at Texas many innocent men have been put to death due to lack of forensic evidence.
yes I remember some years ago a man was campaigning for a man on death row by the name of Peter Collins and evidence emerged that this man who by the way had learning difficulties had been on death row since a teenager and because of his race had never been given a fair trial,.

I hear the evidence for the death penalty, and against it. We all have our opinions & i try to see it from both sides, however; You only have to see the way the UK is now to understand that there is no deterrent to keep these scumbags at bay. Prison is not a punishment, its where they go to learn new tricks, and they leave with a trade- some of them actually do.
they have a roof over their heads, and food. Some of our old age pensioners are suffering, have to visit food banks, and they are scared to put on the gas to heat their homes because of the high cost of fuel.
We will always have bad people in society, but; The border line cases are kept in check by a deterrent- ie; hanging and flogging!
Or just keep treating them with kid gloves and allow them to get away with it like some people on here suggest.
Is it justice that a civilised society seeks or revenge? Do we execute the jurors who send an innocent person to there death to get revenge for the family of that innocent person? "No" would be the cry, It would be unfair", so why is it that some feel that the possibility of executing an innocent person is acceptable?

That is a valid argument & i hear it. But like i said before with the forensics, information, cctv coverage, witness statements, fair trial- well it should be-there is no error, not nowadays.
Or what do you suggest? rehabilitation? lets say............. yes, lets say rehabilitate a p*dophile.......right! its in their make up to do what they do, nobody will change them, never. But lets keep them in prison and drain the country of its recourses because we are humane and love the person but hate the crime- i hate that PC crap.
murderers, and rapists, are expendable, and should be gathered together, and deployed to fight overseas in aconvict army. They want to live a life of pain towards others ,so let them suffer over there. It,ll certainly clean out our prisons, and save the economy a few bucks.

No, I say lock them up for life, and I mean life. As far as the death penalty goes, the death of one innocent person does not justify the death penalty. Forensic science has come on leaps and bounds, but it is not perfect and in many cases forensics are not available. Witnesses are very unreliable and in fact will change there minds many times. Their are many cases of people being found guilty of minor offences which are later squashed, which is something that cannot be done when someone is dead.
Some time back when this topic was brought up before I posted I was for the death penalty now I've change my mind.
I've heard where someone was put to death then later one because of mis-identifcation had been found innocent.Obviously it's to late if they are found innocent after the fact when they've only been put to death.
MrRick77: Is it really a botched job if the person still died ?
I live in Spain, I am not Spanish. I am from the UK. The Spanish police are years and years behind the UK in crime investigation and forensics, bearing in mind that most of the advanced forensics were developed in the UK. Over many years in the past innocent people in Spain have been wrongly imprisoned, a problem they are now acknowledging. This is due to the lack of skills from the police right through to the judicial system. I agree with your sentiments about the two you mention. As far as I am concerned they should not see the light of day. Life should be life. Evidence does come to light proving innocence at a later date in all offences, but if we execute people its a bit late, and that also makes a mockery of our "fair justice system"

Its like a very sensitive issue.
Brings up stuff in me because i hate injustice, really bugs me. But you are right innocents have been wrongly accused and been put to death. I am not saying for one minute thats right, or they deserved it, or i dont care. Be it on the authorities head.
but what i am saying is: If you are 110% certain that the person is a murderer then they deserve all they get. Or repeat offenders who keep getting away with it need putting down like a dog.

It's obvious that if the ones who commits the crime were never released then it's obvious that they wouldn't become repeat offenders and be put to death. Our judicial system is way to lax.

Your not kidding- you want to see it here!!
Its a joke. As fast as they are being processed to go into jail they are coming out the back door to reoffend. I know my Mothers sister is American & lives in LA, its a battleground. Wars everyday on them streets!

imagine if the death penelty had been in the uk the Guildford four and Birmingham 6 would have been put to death innocent souls before evidence came to light of them being proved innocent and still in this day and age mistakes can be made with forescics ,this point of my argument is the main reason why I'm against the death penalty and as for people who commit horrendous crimes life should mean life in prison behind bars and never let out to reoffend.

Yes, good point. The Birmingham 6 were treated shabbily.
But having an Irish accent in this country at one time was enough to get you into trouble. Ireland has been wronged too many times by British governments, but thats another topic and i dont wana get into it.

Hello I agree with you. Whether they were guilty or not, and everyone will have there opinion, forensics were unable to prove the case, and it is not always possible to do so. If we move away from that then we are going back to the dark ages and becoming like many of the counties we despise. Lock them up for life by all means.

What you have said about the "Irish accent" is one of the other problems. Jurors are everyday people. They are the people who sit in bars, cafe's or whatever and know how to put the economy right, sort immigration, are experts on football ect. Or so they believe they are. They have pre-conceived ideas and no amount of logical argument will change that. It is a human trait. So, asking a juror to understand the complexities of a murder scene, forensics, interview ect so they can decide who is guilty is a very iffy thing. Witnesses who stand in a grand court surrounded by learned people either play up there role or crumble. Jurors do get confused.
