Is it better to date someone with a cultural background (by cultural I mean educational) similar to yours, so that you share the same level of discussions about movies, books, art, history etc... or do you think that is just one characteristic out of many others that make a relationship work, and isnt by all means the most important?
Yes I would. Formal education does not ensure you are smart or know anything. I have known college educated people who are dumber than rocks. I also know people who have no formal education past high school and are far smarter than the average person.

Yes, I think a formal education and having similar interests are two different things. Education doesn't someone's ability to be loving, caring and faithful. Two people can certainly work together to enjoy similar interests.
It can't be educational! I've spoken with brain surgeons and professors who don't even know what they're walking around with packed inside their own TEETH! Nah! I'd need to be with someone in possession of unconditioned brain cells (and if you think that'd be an easy task then I can assure you that you'd be wrong). Example: In the banks here in Sweden the "paying-in slips" are a very pretty green colour and the "withdrawal slips" are a very pretty red colour. Whenever I ask anyone the reason why they don't know (including those WORKING in the banks). Being uneducated myself, I don't think it could ever work if I were to live together with such professors or brain surgeons as mentioned above. I just wouldn't have the patience to try to educate them on what's going on right under their very academic noses.

i have no formal education, beyond high school, therefore it is not for me to judge whether or not someone is smart enough to date me...i can conversate with just about anyone, provided they are not TRYING to show me up with thier education...i read alot, and know that i have a high i.q. so i guess that's supposed to classify me as smart...but for all i think i know, there is always someone smarter in some way...if there are smarter people, then it stands to reason that there are those that are not as intelligent as i, for whatever reason they have...so yes, i would date someone who is not as smart as me...who knows, they may have a little something to teach me...
chococherrie78: yes i would if they could keep an interesting converstaion, and we learn many things throught life experiences not books
Formal education gives you a framework, but its up to you to fill it in. Having an education dosnt make you smart, or a nice person. So I could care less about a formal education. Hi Cherrie
