I agree, it is an American thing and also played in Canada and Japan..but it is NOT a WORLD championship when only North America plays in that championship. We do have baseball in the UK and it IS called Rounders and it IS played by women. Men do NOT play rounders.
Soccer is a GLOBAL game, just like Rugby and they are both played by males and females.
I was NOT insulting baseball, merely answering a question as to what sport it was. However, it is a sport that is not global and many Americans cannot answer WHY the call it the World Series when they, and only they play in it. Bloody hell, invite that Japanese to make the title of World series a little more compliant!
Next year, the Soccer World Cup Final takes place with 32 DIFFERENT countries taking part..these have got through the qualifying stages of hell knows how many countries took part in! Now THAT is a compliant WORLD series/championships!!!

I think something like 186 countries took part in the qualifiers
its the american way for money to work. example the Yankees try every year to buy a world series and most of the time. i should not have said that about soccer. sorry to whom every i offend.

Called the World Series because original sponsor was a newspaper called the World. not sure if it was New York or Washington. Anyway we have the same game in England, we call it "Rounders" and it is played by girls at school not men or women.

Ah but I am English, so what would I know Gary. Think though it is about the original sponsor and not the fact it is an international competition. I hear Cubans are brilliant at this "sport"
yes Cubans are good. lot other smaller country play baseball. you may be right. living where you live at. but then again USA don't support a queen either. right.

odessaukraine48: ok tell me what you no about baseball. i have been told or heard. its little like cricket.
Told you, schoolgirls play it in England, cricket totally different, the English invented most sports, alas we are rubbish at them so we just keep inventing new ones.
oh does not really matter. i no cricket is different . do you have roller derby./lacrosse/ in USA they have tons of sports. but in USA. soccer comes in about last.
Actually, I think football (soccer) has grown a lot more over the past few years in USA. Although the US national teams still has a lot of work, they have improved greatly over the years. More people are starting to play, and the US is even bidding to host the World Cup again in either 2018/2022.
