friends4now: it can be controlled with medication but the biggest problem with bi-polar patients is they don't stay on themit would depend on the type they have, what their cycles consist of, and how they manage
I have dated 2 men with BPD, one for almost a year. I found myself attracted to their high-energy creativity and zaniness. Unfortunately, both of them were also self-absorbed and verbally abusive when spiraling, so I would probably try to avoid men with the disability in the future because of my own personal experience.
Everyone is different: one of the men was so crippled by the disease that he couldn't even hold down a job. I consider that pretty severe. The other had held a series of entry-level jobs because he would have periodic episodes. So, in essence, it interfered with his ability to live also.
gozoman2: ...bipolar is a more politically correct name to those suffering from Schizophrenia..... neurons basically haywire resulting in heavy mood swings which tend to be very difficult to deal with in a partner.....
....may also be kept in check with the correct medication....
bipolar is not the politically correct name for schizophrenia...the are two different illnesses ...

Completely different, and schizophrenia as with many mental illnesses can be aided by the help of family and loved ones around them, not just the medication. Well said Betty!

Bio polar is the politically correct name for Manic Depression. Ian Dury and the Blockheads did a great song called Manic Depression as he suffered from this illness himself.

All of this is the Problems my Foster Brother is dealing with right now.
I would have problems with the abusive portion when Spiraling. I have experienced this with Him. That is very highly stressful.
That is a Brother. I don't know about dealing with this everyday with a LifeMate.
It hurts to admit this b/c I am also Disabled. I am Deaf, ADHD and Dyslexic. I want to be accepted for myself despite my Handicaps. I am certain the People afflicted with BPD/ Manic/Dep also wish the same.
HI,FROM MY UNDERSTANDING BI-POLAR IS WHEN A PERSON HAS MOOD SWINGS.IN THAT CASE WE ALL HAVE IT BECAUSE NOBODY IS THE SAME ALL OF THE TIME.WE ALL HAVE UPS AND DOWNS.

Its not the same as just having mood swings depending on the severity of it to the sufferer it can be quite debilitating..but with proper care and medication sufferers acn lead an "normal" life....
itsallme112: No. I've dated one and worked with a few. Medication is fine but it tends to cause a dry mouth and lack of motivation to do things, usually too tired because of the sedation affect. It also interfers with one's libido. Sometimes if they forget to take their meds, they might go into a manic stage and there's no stopping their impulsive acts. Some people diagnosed with bipolar is really not clinical in the medical sense, all people are different. If you love a bi-polar person it's not a problem. Everyone has an issue of some sort.
Wow did this thread take off. I just wanted to quote this because I was referring to this on page 2. Shirley you had asked and I didnt want you to think I was referring to any of your quotes at all :) Sorry it took so long to reply on it for ya.
My grown daughter is also bipolar. Takes a special person to deal with it. She can be very appealing, but also very threatening. Like friends4now said, she often does not take medication like she should. If she can't work, she can't afford the meds, and if she doesn't have the meds, she can't work. One of those difficult situations.
Would I date someone bipolar? Don't know that I have the guts..... ????
bettyboop63: the only disbility in life is a bad attitude and you lady have that in abundance.... ...
My apologies, Betty. I wish you all happiness.
My anger wasn't about you, it was about my ex (a schizophrenic). And my son is doing fine, his weight is up to normal now and he's cheerful instead of depressed.
