No, religion is more often used as an excuse for war, BUT religions have frequently taken advantage of and benefited from those wars. That's not to say genuine religious intolerance hasn't caused death and misery but in the majority of wars religion is simply an excuse.

Absolutely, I believe the inventor of the Kalashnikov was once asked "Do you have problems sleeping at night knowing how many people the gun you designed has killed?" His response "My gun doesn't kill people, the person who pulls the trigger is the killer" (or something similar)
