I haven't seen it and the preview puts me off completely. I'm a Sherlock Holmes fan - and the film doesn't look like it has anything to do with Arthur Conan Doyle's character. It looks like just another mindless American Hollywood action flick to me.
It could have been worse though - they could have got Michael Bay to direct it.
Sorry, I forgot all about this poll! I saw the film about 2 weeks ago and thought it was fantastic!!I had actually added it to my favourite movies list. This is my wee review:
Being an avid "Jeremy Brett" fan, I wasn't sure whether I would like this film as I knew it was very different from the Sherlock Holmes character that is normally portrayed. It did take me a good 30 minutes or so to "accept" Robert Downey Jr as a very funky, young and brawny Holmes, but it did work! You have to take your deerstalker off to him he does a great job. I'm not merely talking about his very solid English accent but his ability to make Holmes humorous, unpredictable and easily bored but at the same time believable even when rapidly reaching the toughest of deductions from the evidence on hand. He works best and indeed the film as a whole really shines when he and the brilliant Watson, (Jude Law), are verbally sparring. The banter is fast, funny and they appear to be having a great time so that the effect of two mates winding each other up is very real.
The plot revolves around a mystical villain called Lord Blackwood who has committed several murders and having been uncovered by Holmes is about to be hanged. He would appear to have power of supernatural ability and creates fear even as he waits in his prison cell to be hanged. There's more to his story than first appears and Holmes and Watson are soon haring about trying to put the clues together in order to unravel a dastardly plot!
A fantastic film - not at all the traditional Holmes that we are all used to, but if you watch it with an open mind, I am sure you will love it.

I've not seen it, just doesn't appeal somehow. I am a great fan of Sherlock Holmes. Not sure who plays SH and who is Dr W but I can't really see Jude Law or RDJ playing either part.
There is only one SH and that's Basil Rathbone, the original, with Nigel Bruce playing Dr W. Never miss an opportunity to see those classic B&W films.

Yeah, know what you mean doesn't appeal to me either. The novels are the best way to apprieciate Sherlock Holmes. Although I did like Jeremy Brett as Holmes.

Many, many years ago there used to be a bar in Baker Street tube station, London, called "Moriarty's" (just opposite 221B Baker Street). It was fab! Not sure if its still there now.... lots of memorabilia and B&W stills from the BR and NB Sherlock Holmes movies.

Yeah...like I said, it is VERY different from any of the other film adaptations of Sherlock Holmes....but, in my humble opinion, it really did work! The chemistry between Holmes & Watson was faultless. I recently saw an interview with them, and they are good friends in real life, and that really came across on screen.
