My first ex wanted to re-unite, but cancelled the trip to see me. That was it for him.

I have heard of some people remarrying and it working, but there are reasons for splitting up, and some just can't be fixed once broken.

There were times when I’ve really tried to keep that marriage alive, but failed. You can’t manage that “single-handed”, the other side has to participate, and participate actively, in the rescuing action, otherwise it’s only a waste of time.
But when it died I’ll let it to be dead for me.

Yep, agree with you completely, but it obviously does depend on people's circumstances. There isn't one right or wrong answer to thisThe circumstances are unique to the people and the situation so no one can answer this as a "cover all".
