ofogh1338: this is a war of no use.they claim it to be a fight agaist terrorism??but which terrorism?bombing civilians is the job??the russians were in afganistan for years to rob their underground wealth and they had to leave.the same thing happens to nato forces.the only thing done is loss of inocents afghan civilians and the nato soldgers.besides this war is for oil and contolling the regions.in the past innocent people were sacrificed in the us in sept 11 for the so called israeli security.this war is to complete that.

If the US fighting wars for Israel's security, Iran by now would have American boots on the ground and American aircraft flying overhead.
Iran is the singles biggest threat to Israel security in middle east.
President A. tells us that all the time.

GoodHeartforYou: Well said

- too bad we can't have our fine military soldiers here - "protect our own borders"

They could if the President ordered them to.

But if one considers that while doing time in Iraq, they captured some 120,000 foreign fighters that went across state borders to fight in Iraq.
That these 120,000 would have gone across any national border launch a attack or terrorist strike.....they were defending the US proper.

ironman57321: Your Dad was/is a brave man TT.Since the enemy uses the Red Cross as a target. It only seems prudent.

He was not a corpsman. But a wireman, so got shot at legally.

It not just that...he also saw German and American medics on the same field treating both their own and the other's wounded together. War is a strange human activity that brings out the worse and best of mankind.

Taliban and alQeada units don't have medics in them. But they will take away their wounded and dead from the battlefield. Ever see a media write up on a alQeada or Taliban field hospital being found? Or a alQeada or Iraq field hospital in Iraq being found?

We have been in this for 9 years.....we have aerial reconn and imagery systems that give you the numbers off a license plate. So if these field hospitals were there.....we would have seen them.

So what happens to a badly wounded Taliban and alQeada?

We know a few wounded from Afghanistan made their way to Sadam's Iraq. Meaning they likely crossed Iran to get there. But for those wounded that cannot travel?

The Taliban and Alqeada units are in remote areas. Slowed by the vertical terrian and now have to carry wounded? I don't think so.

Common Article III of the Geneva Convention (in part) reads:
"The wounded and sick shall be collected and cared for with respect."

Common Article III applies to armed conflict that are not international wars....but are between a government and rebel forces or two rebel forces or conflicts carried out in the confines of a nation state.

Note: It applies to both side of the conflict and to both friendly and hostile wounded.

Yet the Taliban and alQeada don't have field hospitals? Nor when we took their caves in Tora Bora and elsewere.....did we find very much in the way of medical facilities, medical equipment or beds for the care of wounded.

I submit to you that the Taliban and alQeada summarily execute their own wounded. We know that they execute ours. We have that on drone video. But it is still breach of the Geneva Convention Common Article III. Execution of a wounded man is not showing respect, mercy or Islamic charity.

They know they can leave their wounded on the battlefield and we would collect and care for them. But they also know that then intelligence would be gathered from them. That they don't want.

patmac: These lads Joined through choice and knew if called on they would have to serve.....Like any military I have ever known there is a way of getting out of your service if you do not want to serve any further. Why did these folk not use that?? I reckon that they are in some cases just totally afraid of going to a "war zone" Well they knew when they joined they could be sent to war (as I was a couple of times in 22 years of service) so by running to Canada they are guilty of desertion,NO MATTER what reason. They cannot take any moral high ground as they all took an oath and knew they could be deployed at any time to any place at the order of their Commander in Chief....The could however have used the procedures in place and left the service before they were deployed..

These folk took all the benefits they get in the US Armed forces and when called on to deploy ran away. They were happy to serve and get the benefits whilst under no threat but when asked to do the duty the signed on for RAN AWAY.....Only one thought their own safety. No apology but these folk are DESERTERS Unlike their Veitnamese war objectors who were draughted and had NO CHOICE. They chose to volunteer and should in my mind do what the signed up to do....As always JMO
