I take it we're talking about a first date. I usually arrange for a phone call for an hour after we've met. That way I have an excuse to leave and finish the date with no feelings hurt as I can claim some disaster has happened. I've met girls too who have a friend who just happens to be in the pub we meet in. If we click, the friend is just leaving, if not, she's there for the night, so it seems a pretty common solution.
