The UN is a necessary evil. In order to gain acceptance from the evil and repressive regimes of the world they have to cow tow to their agendas somewhat while trying to place civilized democratic ideals as friendly sort of suggestions. Hence the disproportionate amount of silly committees with the worst offenders as participants.
We have to start somewhere and this is a good start. Everybody has to have a place to go to in order to provide gripes other than just blast away. While not fair and, not binding, it has to have a start and, a place for countries to invest their trust.

For some reason, when I think of the U.N., the "war room" from Dr. Strangelove comes to mind. I imagine them sitting there like that, with sometimes outrageous outbursts that nobody seems to notice(even tho I've seen U.N. meetings on TV)

UN as it is now is lesser than a Paper tiger UN needs reforms . The political and ecomonical conditions have changed so much that should be reflected in the UN as well .
