Leading FF party members are now at each others throats, it is now only a question of when, not if, he goes, so how long will he cling desperately onto the office of Taoiseach?
There's talk of Brian Lenihan going in for the kill on Friday after the results of the Donegal by-election... but I'd say he'll last til after the budget.
MarsMan: At least Vincent Browne ripped in. RTE have the kid gloves on, yet again.
Oh heaven forbid that RTE should have a go at the government! Too many big salaries at stake! How come RTE need a licence fee to provide a service that TV3 do for free. The BBC do this but they don't advertise!
jimbo79: if he is pushed an election would have to be called immediately
I doubt there would be an immediate general election, if Cowen is "replaced," FF will still try to hang on to power and it doesn't really matter who gets elected, the ECB & IMF are calling the shots now.

it would be the third taoiseach in this term an immediate election would be called
jimbo79: no it's not a rule but the way i see it if cowen falls it will happen
Don't get me wrong, I would prefer a new government as soon as possible, but while Cowen may go, FF will be even more stuborn to get rid of, they know the game is up and they will be absolutely decimated in an immediate election, they will try everything to cling onto power because they know they aren't getting back in.

Can I suggest the Iraqi retirement plan for national leaders! A suspended sentence you could say!

im not so sure if if the have the belly for it anymore, i think a heave would bring the end and thats the only reason why it hasnt happened, but now after this week it doesn't matter whether the hold on because there is nothing much to hold onto
....unfortunately it begs the question who to vote for in any election. I gave up believing the promises of politicians a long long time ago, they are not worth the paper they never bothered to write them on. Would things have really been any different under FG or Labour? They had the IMF knocking at the door in the 80's.

It's the end of democracy then. Whoever takes over is tied to this 4 year plan agreed with the ECB and the IMF! This is so depressing once the anger subsides. What's going to become of us all?

i really don't know, but there are dark days ahead and alot more than just 4 years we will have to pay 4 or 5 billion a year back to the imf on top of the cuts it's like been caught in a pincer
I doubt FG and Labour will get a landslide especially with Enda in charge of FG, and Gilmore has a major credibility gap that will be exploited by his opponents . I can see a lot of independents or so called independents being elected.
abitunlucky: Goodbye greens, goodbye FF. I doubt FG and Labour will get a landslide especially with Enda in charge of FG, and Gilmore has a major credibility gap that will be exploited by his opponents . I can see a lot of independents or so called independents being elected.
I don't think it will matter who's i n power. FF will use this 4 year deal to protect them and their pals first. It will be irreversable. It's the only reason they are hanging on.
