BlainX: Travel or stay home and not get groped.
Hi Blain, extra security provides more jobs including those that don't work at the airports and for some it would give a feeling of more security when flying. The way I see it if a person has nothing to hide they have nothing to fear including being "groped" as you put it or scanned.
When my family and I flew to England in '87 after a hairy landing we landed in Bombay to be greeted by machine gun armed soldiers only to find that the baggage handlers were on strike so everyone had to collect their luggage off the runway then everyone was physically searched. The women security offices searched the females and children, the male officers searched the men. I was 7 months pregnant at the time and had no problem with it as the way I saw it was that they were keeping everyone safe.
Isnt that the main thing that everyone reaches their destination in one piece and not in a pine box ?
i agree in the fact maybe they are going a bit too far. i know a friend who is born in the states and just traveled for business in the states and got groped..does everyone have to go through this? im wondering if children and 90 year old elderly people also will have to endure that too.
While it may do some good it doesn't stop the bad guys. If there is a high security place they can go where security is less. Hell - a tanker truck full of gas driven into a mall is something pretty damn easy to do and who is going to prevent it?
This creates jobs and other monies. I had to get a $132.50 security pass just to work on a port that would almost never be a target for anything.

so what should be done to really really solve this problem(although i think i have managed to gather some pretty 'good' ideas from many posts here)?

I understand why they are doing it but they are going too far. A couple of years ago when I was leaving Scotland to return to Holland I had to take off my shoes and socks. I remember one incident, I think it was in Houston, I was asked to remove my flip-flops. What is the world coming to I thought to myself. I have been through a body scan and had the pat down. I've have my finger prints taken etc, etc, etc.
But when they make a child remove his shirt like I saw on the news this morning, I think they are out of line.
The underwear bomber got through security at Schiphol last year which amazes me, that's probably why they have started all of this.
You can't tell them to leave you alone because you could be fined and they might think you have something to hide. As most people don't have anything to hide I don't know what the uproar is about, even though it's not a pleasant experience. Maybe this is here to stay, who knows.
Who needs extra hassle when all one wants to do is make sure they can make their flight. Now you probably have to be at the airport earlier than before.
The thing about this is that once the U.S. starts something the rest of the world follows.
it does exactly what the terrorist want..make ppl feel insecure, make the gov, spend loads of money on BS stuff and puts in in the hands of incompetent ninncompoops..while the trrorist laugh their asses off..there are other ways to travel than by air..you don't have to bring pp into the country to blow stuff up..they are here already..there are enough unhappy folks who feel they have been mistreated and what not in every country..and they don't have to be Islamists either..JMO
annie_nsw: Hi D, Long time no see..thank you for the support..It must be a guy thing not liking being patted down..
Did you see the news report about a guy working at an airport scanner that was watching the screen, with a number of women going through, with his pants down so he could, and was, playing with himself. What is stopping someone from carrying a suitcase bomb into an airport and exploding it there? That would screw up air traffic and disrupt all sorts of schedules.

Yep, again though, it's not about safety, it's about the appearance of safety.
As US citizens are getting their gnads groped... -Meanwhile Terrorist within our own country that have citizenship cards are planning their next attack?
The airliner has proven to be an efficient weapon. Unfortunately, this has been demonstrated. Now that this is known, any hijacker is capable of turning the aircraft into a weapon. This cannot be tolerated at any cost, because the loss of life when this 'weapon' is deployed is large. Without strict security in airports, it could possibly become a trend whereby hijacking leads to repeated death tolls. Attacks would not necessarily be politically, or religiously motivated.
