So, which one of our two fine domestic team sports do you prefer? Although Cork is considered a Hurling County, I'm from a strong footballing part of it and I've always preferred the big ball game myself. They're both great though. So which do you prefer and why?

I always used to follow my local senior footballers at home (Where I come from our top hurling team are Junior A), but only went to my first Intercounty football game 2 years ago. It got me hooked though. Then when I found out about the GAA season ticket I had to get one. Was at all the championship games last year (including walking around Wexford getting lost for about an hour. )the home league games and the league final. Hoping to get to all bar one of the league games this year. I'm practically having palpitations at the thought of the start of a new season in 3 weeks. Magic.
For me you can't beat the buzz of an inter-county GAA match, the banter, the sense of occasion, the controlled aggression, getting to meet and talk to people you wouldn't have otherwise. It's priceless. What a buzz.
I used to be addicted to GAA (in terms of club) when I was small, my dad took me all over Cork to matches. Didn't matter whether it was football, hurling, championship, league, challenge match, I was hooked. I always enjoyed it since, but I only went to Senior Club games, so you might only be at 1 or 2 games a year. Now I'm completely hooked again.
I don't think anything will erase the memory from my mind of singing the banks in the pissing rain as the Sam Maguire was passed around. Hopefully we'll win it again this year, but if we don't it really doesn't matter, I'll still follow them loyally. I hope to get to a few hurling matches too this year, but I financially couldn't afford to go to all the matches in both, so I prioritise my favourite code which is hurling. I really can't explain the tingle you get on big match days at Croker. If you've been there you'll know, but it's not something you can describe.
sugar77: Went to the sports shop to buy him a gaelic football,to practice...didnt know there was a difference.. gaelic training tomorrow..
I put on a (largely) GAA based one man show in Cork lately and needed a Gaelic football for a prop. The staff were very helpful. I genuinely thought there was no make available other than O' Neill's and was fully prepared to be paying full whack for it, but they were very quick to point out there was a much cheaper one available, which served my needs perfectly.

Ah yeah,, different sized footballs for younger kids and its a great way to meet people but make sure if your young fellah is good enough to play senior the dubs don't try to poach him,,it's bad enough that they claim one of their all Irelands that a team from Bray won..
Had to vote for hurling as it is the best game in the world, but being from Donegal, i'm addicted to my football, club and county. We may b amateurs but i defy anyone to show me any sport played with more passion

flick1980: im surprised jimbo hasnt been on to comment on here yet prefer hurling myself although i love both.
i love both games so much it's hard to choose, been from carlow we never had much success in either, although eire og and the blues gave us some great days in the club, great memories from those days, at inter county mostly bad memories with a few exceptions our u21s losing in a leinster final in 84 against dublin was a very proud day, beating laois in 88 was great to, as for the hurling winning back to back christy rings in 08 and 09 was fantastic made all the better as i had my own son there with me, to me the gaa is a cultural expierience as much as it is a sport
Geri11: Did i miss a wedding? and bring it on!!!!! Young, fit Donegal team ready for battle this year
Would that be the same young fit team of under 21's that lost the All Ireland to the skyblues?
Yeah you missed my wedding in '92. Got married on the Friday, settled into the pub on the Sunday to watch us win against Donegal to make up for losing the 4 game series against Meath the year before...What a kick in the hole!!!

Not gonna make excuses for the U21 final, but we were better than how we played that day, and there's a few of them on the senior panel this year but they not the back bone by any means. U have been warned.....

Oh the fear will kill me! Thats if we make it far enough to play an Ulster team this year. I don't want another year of that puke football again..we may have got to the semi but it was horrible to watch except for the Brogans...

Yeah but if ye'd won, that wouldn't have bothered you. I can't say that Cork played fantastic football last year, but we did what we needed to and ended up with Sam, so I didn't mind.

It bothered me to the extent that having not missed a championship match since '79 apart from when I was on my honeymoon, and including our famous trip to Cork, I did not go to a game after the qualifier against Tipp. Through the last decade we lost lots of big games but those teams got us up off our seats at times with the football they played. I'll never forget the noise when we played Donegal and Armagh in '02, the drawn game with Tyrone and the brief comeback in the replay, the semi against Kerry that we lost by a point...a bit like Newcastle under Kevin Keegan!
martini100: Nah it's got cushions and why cant i like the two ??
Wexford & Cork Hurlers, Kerry and Kildare football, i have family all over the place
You can absolutely like both. no bother. I suppose I just wanted to see what people preferred. I was working on the assumption everyone will have a slight preference. In hindsight maybe I should have had an option for 'I like them equally.'
