There is no one size fit's all.
Europe is a nice place but when you work for the state then it's no different than Communist Russia or any other state that says it's for the good of the country.
American's Have been free to make it or break it in their own lives. Majority Make it. Some don't. Biggest problem is forced commerce and higher taxes to support an ever growing government plain and simple. Less Government the more freedom's to live like you want.

You go, Katt!I was born in my father's native Dublin, Ireland. My father immigrated to America as a young boy. He had dreams of owning his own ranch like he had seen in the Westerns at the cinema. He worked on his parents' farm that they had acquired in Iowa, worked a job while attending college,went into service for his adopted country, met and married my mother, became an accountant, and together they bought a small horse and cattle ranch to raise their six children on.
My maternal grandmother was a socialite and I was raised up as a socialite. My grandparent's had a small ranch and became pillars of the community through hard work and the sweat of their brows. After my mother and uncle were grown and married with lives of their own, my grandparents lived and worked in Africa- first in Monrovia, Liberia, then on to Kenya. Summer vacations were spent partly with my father's family in Ireland and partly with my grandparents in Kenya. Making friends with children in both countries. :)After my uncle's death in a boating accident while living and working in Alaska with the Eskimos, my grandparents moved back to the US where they continued to live to this day. They've never had a verandah, have never watched a NASCAR race in their lives and prefer a nice red wine with dinner. Classical, Big Band or Opera is always playing at their home.
As a socialite, I was brought up with grace and good manners and to treat everyone with dignity and respect. I served my country as a young Second Lieutenant during Operation Desert Storm. A stroke earned me a medical retirement.I became a veterinary technician and did that for ten years. I own and operate a ranch which is a 27/7 365 day job and I wouldn't trade it for anything in this world. I became an ordained non-denominational minister and love helping people make their wedding day extra special. :) My bring-in-the-daily money job is as an Investigative Detective and it quenches my inquiring mind bringing philandering spouses to the light and on to divorce court.Finding lost loves and uncovering dirt for state and local law enforcement. It's great and I love it. :)
With my upper class background, it helps pave the way for my husband when rubbing elbows with doctors at black tie dinners. Ranching always comes up and becomes a new topic to talk and learn about.
I don't have a verandah, have never watched a NASCAR race and prefer a nice glass of red wine with dinner. Opera, Classical, Country and AC/DC is usually playing at my home or in the barn. I like going to the opera and ballet from time to time.
