TrueBlue1986: China is innovative, but is it inventive? Why hasn't China, given its ascension, created their equivalent of the car?
aww. they are contributing to human rights awlrights.
tomcatwarne: Correct And what did happen to the" innovative spirit" in China?.....lost to greed perhaps????And what do you have to justify the above opinion, or was that just off the top of your head
Well Tom, it's obvious my head and your head don't agree but does that make me wrong...and who do you consider the superpower?

leigh2154: I agree with Venus, you left out India.....US, China, India....US is "currently" the # 1 superpower but China is rising while US is falling...If you are talking military and economic and right now, it is US.....And, even if China becomes the # 1 superpower, can they hold it?...IMO no, they face some internal problems which the US does not...and, think about this, China "borrows" (steals) ideas from US...if you have to steal innovation rather than innovate what does that tell you?.......JMO
Though India has big Military and sophisticated hardwares , Its highly unlikely that India could be a Military super power due to various factors . However its for sure that India has already emerged as a economic and technology super power. Unlike yesteryears I can see the innovation and research are growing in an exponential rates .Indian designed cars and machineries are far more advanced than their European/Japanese/US counter parts with very less cost . India has made huge strides in Agriculture and IT fields, Aerospace ,Medical research fields as well . But what one must see is how that is going to help t poor and needy in this country .India will remain the most paradoxical nation in the history , Poor and rich at the same time , advanced and backward at the same time.

Since when must I, or anyone else for that matter, justify a question Tom? Since you take issue with it, maybe you should justify it by answering it....unless, of course, you feel you already have...and if so, why pound on me?

tomcatwarne: In my opinion, China and India are the emerging super powers. I hope the States will recover from their massive payment deficit. Who knows.
Money will not be relevant where we are going anyway, so why should it matter???

I agree totally...in fact, I stated as much...I did go out on a limb and say, IMO, I don't see it happening.....or, if it does, can they (China) hold on.....
So, does that mean you consider US the # 1 superpower right now, as we speak?

Well isn't that typical, because I put forward contesting arguments to you I'm pounding on you. This just seems to prove you have no substance in your arguments, they are just straw men. It's not so much justifying an opinion as giving it validity, perhaps with references or something like that. If it's just your opinion I would be the first to say you are entitled to that, but don't say I am pounding on you because I put forward alternative arguments. I am entitled to do that as well.

Yes, you are entitled to do all of the above, I just don't get why I must "justify" a question...At this point, I am not even sure what you take issue with....looking at the "whole" it l appears we are in agreement concerning the thread question/poll...US is #1 superpower.....right?

The thread question is "Who is the superpower" and there were three alternatives China being one of them.

I agree, there seems to be no welfare state but there is now the wealth to create one and for India to care for it's own poor community.
India has it's own space program, more millionaires that the UK but still receives £350 million per year in humanitarian aid from the UK.
Why is this ? If it is not within the Indian culture to care for it's own why should the international community be expected to do so.....

they kill the protestors
You should see some of the silly things the English protest over, and the police can't even give them a good old-fashioned beating. Sometimes I wish England was a little bit more like China.
