For the time being, it's the USA. China will overtake at some point, but I'd say China could fall even faster than it has risen under the strain of its teeming population and chronic pollution. The scale of social and environmental problems in China means their future is by no means a given(India is much the same).

I agree with Venus, you left out India.....US, China, India....US is "currently" the # 1 superpower but China is rising while US is falling...If you are talking military and economic and right now, it is US.....And, even if China becomes the # 1 superpower, can they hold it?...IMO no, they face some internal problems which the US does not...and, think about this, China "borrows" (steals) ideas from US...if you have to steal innovation rather than innovate what does that tell you?.......JMO
