RDM59: I agree, there seems to be no welfare state but there is now the wealth to create one and for India to care for it's own poor community.
India has it's own space program, more millionaires that the UK but still receives £350 million per year in humanitarian aid from the UK.
Why is this ? If it is not within the Indian culture to care for it's own why should the international community be expected to do so.....
A country receiving Aid has nothing to do with its culture . If you look at the statics for the last 5 years , millions of people have been uplifted from the Poverty . Its a feat you dont see anywhere , However I personally feel that much needs to be done to translate Indian success into more meaningful programs for its own people . I attribute this to the corruption in the political structure than anything else . I dont think if the so called Aid stopped tomorrow , nothing is going to happen here . I think aid should be stopped and should be diverted to more needy countries .

That's good news about the internal poverty up lift. It is all happening so fast, Rome wasn't built in a day as they say, as long as the intent is there. I like your views .....

I recollect a famous quote from JRD TATA , a prominent industrialist from India on India being a super power , he said " I don,t want India to be a superpower, I want India to be a Happy country". I appreciate the vision in his statement . It doesn't matter if you are a superpower or not as long as your people are not happy and not taken care of

India is home to 1/3 of the Worlds poorest people....1/2 of India's children are malnourished......
The stats: Of the 1.7 B in aid, about 300 M is contributed by the UK.....where does the money go?
295 B focuses on elementary education, 146 M goes for health and sanitation, 139 M goes toward child health services, and the remainder is distributed to urban reform, rural livelihood, and small business and governance of same......
Interestingly, India "gives" 500 M in aid to lesser developed countries.....PR?
I agree, aid to India should stop and redistribution of wealth within India should start.......

This is a great post!!......it is what is happening in US and we are a superpower!....so many are unhappy with so much...it is as bad as I have seen it in my lifetime....you hear more negatives than positives from the general pop.... we need to change it....My opinion of course!
