Couple buddies of mine gave it a go and got some contacts from a SF guy and ended up in Africa somewhere back in the late eighties. Deal was they supply their own rifle and equipment and get two grand a month.
They ended up on an oil rig here in Alberta making four times that and not have to worry about getting shot at. One ended up being a big deal in the directional drilling department so I suppose it worked out for him.
Another couple of guys joined the Foreign Legion. Went AWOL to do it. Less than a year later they turned up in London and surrendered to the Canadian Embassy. After a brief stint in jail they came back to the Airborne Regiment and told us all about how it went. Lack of discipline, lots of booze, more like a rabble than a cohesive unit and loyalty to whatever.
taking a soldier, no matter how well trained and placing him in a position where he has or receives no loyalty to anything save a paycheck is a recipe for disaster as it is the unit that has to be first, otherwise, individual hit men would be a far better buy than a former soldier. In a battle, it is the unit that sticks together that wins, not the one where everybody is in it for themselves.
you'll regret it if you do, doing so will impact forever on your future, will haunt you for the whole of your life. My time in Vietnam caused lot of problems. So after getting back from there i enquired about serving in Rhodesia, fortunately my father on the last night of his life persuaded me not to go, think in hindsight best thing he ever did for me.
I urge you to find a more wholesome activity to entertain your mind with. All humans are our brothers and sisters who like ourselves are migrating from life to life. Neither you or any other human enjoys suffering no matter how tough you think you are, your still quite capable of crying like a baby pal
