I met a homeless kid in the city once, he was busking with his pet rat. The rat could do tricks. I walked over to him and asked him what she could do. He got all nervous and showed me. The rat gave him a kiss, played dead, rolled over and begged. You could tell he was homeless cause he was real scruffy and dirty. I gave him and little 'Ruby' $50. He almost cried in gratitude after he realised I wasn't joking. I don't care if he's gonna go and smoke or drink it, thats up to him. What made my day was seeing this 16 year old kid light up like a Christmas tree when I gave him that amount of money. That and the big hug he gave me after that.
And kind of like that old man I met when I was buying a pack of cigarettes. He asked if I had a spare $5 so he could go eat. I gave him $20 and told him to go splash out. Ok, he probably drank it, but I just wanted to help him out.
I was homeless once too and it was very rare to be shown and given compassion, whether it was money, food or shelter. So what skin is it off my nose to give these people a little bit of money? After all, it never hurts to be kind.
Zimzane: If A bum on the street asked you for money would you give it to them or give them something to eat? I would having been in that situation myself if I could spare money.
I usually tell them that I was about to ask them the same question, because most of these "bums" in StL dress better than I do (not hard to do), and sometimes if you pass by the right alley, you see the Mercedes Benz they bought with "spare change".
In fact, one dude I knew told a "homeless" man that he would buy him some shoes because.he had paper bags wrapped around his feet. Dude said "Naw bruh, how am I gonna look like I'm in need with some new sleds on my feet?"
