In general, I give money if they're really young or really old.

Did you know peeps, that if you buy the big issue, the person that is selling it, is earning half of that, and it really helps them to save for better things...its an enourmous help in more ways than one. It encourages , it gives them an opportunity to regain some confidence, self worth, buys them some esstentials and its in some cases giving them a chance to pursue some goals.

Not if they ask me, no. We have panhandlers etc on the streets here, but there are two types as well. Im not going to hand money to some tweaky dude from Guadalarja whos hustling. Then there are genuine people in need. Old crippled woman who sit and beg but they also give you something in return, a small woven straw craft or even a handwritten blessing. Although I never take It. I give generously to them. There was a woman in a wheelchair in the parking lot at the market and thats a hard thing to be here in Mexico. I stopped and talked to her for a few, I think she was disabled from a stroke. She made me understand that she was hungry. I was just coming out of the market and had purchased Pulque bread and it was still hot (thats a huge round loaf made from cornmeal with cream cheese baked in the middle and I had a big fruit water in my hand. I gave her that and some money. I try to give back to the community around me, that has given me so much every day.

I wouldn't give them money but I would buy them some food.

It depends on the situation. I have gave money after Hurricane Katrina to a man to fill his gas tank to get his pregnant wife and child home when he could not cash his check from working in my area because he did not have a local bank account.

I give food to most beggars. Most of the ones I see have a sign that says they are homeless and hungry. I also advise them of the directions to the homeless shelter where they will find help. The ones that are not in real need will throw away the food and keep begging for money.

A lot of people begging are not in need and they do it for profits, they only show up at intersections during traffic hour and beg. Some own very nice homes and have nice auto but making a living begging.

I give to organizations that help the homeless, this is why I rather give food to a beggar and give directions to a place they can clean up, sleep, and have regaular meals. I want them to get back on their feet.

Id give them a job and make them earn their pay just like everyone else that earns a living

without hesitation...when i was homeless there were several who gave to me without hesitation, so i would def. do it

Elizabeth Smarts parents did that and it didn't turn out so well.Unless you have a company and a place for them to live then I don't see how this is a viable solution.


I don't know what the solution is to homelessness is but for me I believe charity begins at home.

I give money to poor souls on the street,just this past week I got one a cigar and one two cans of beer.I also got platters of food for people living on the street.Some of the have a story to tell with good roots.

It's happened many times in my life, sometimes i give them cash.......other times i offer to buy a meal. Depends on how they look, my mood, and how they present themselves; i.e. are they drunk, drugged up, etc. Why you want to know, thinking of becoming a bum??
