Which of the declared candidates would you vote for in election to Irish presidency 2011

If you wouldn't vote for any of the above, who would you chose?

David Norris for me, but he'll possibly not be on the ticket as the campaign against him at the moment is disgraceful.... He has 22000 member on FB and consistantly gets in excess of 45% in every poll taken

I have attended a few of his lectures on human rights... he is articulate, clever, funny and dignified... a Statesman if I ever saw one and would be proud to have him as the President of our country

Does any one have reservations about the comments David Norris is alleged to have made and the views expressed within those comments? I am open to correction here but as far as i know he has never denied making the comments but instead has said the comments were interpreted incorrectly......so how do you interpret his comments?

It was about the age of consent and he said he believed there shouldn't be one..... This now has been taken out of the context of the conversation and been shown in a stand alone light....... There are so many in the higher echelons of politics in Ireland that do not want Norris there...

Why??

Because he is a liberal who believes in personal responsibility and choices.... like legalising drugs... cleaning them up taking the crime out of it..... stopping the users needing to rob and burgle.......

He believes in the right to assisted suicide

he's gay... the church loves that one

You should have seen my sister's reaction when I told her I'd love to see Norris elected President. Her first reaction was..."FFS He's GAY!!!! I'd be mortified!"

Why she would be mortified I have no idea. laugh laugh

I listened to his interview the other morning with Aine Lawlor on Morning Ireland and he made me feel very uneasy with what he said. I want to hear his views on the age of consent and his argument for getting rid of it and his views on relationships between young people and older people (even just slightly older) explained without all this Greek mythology mumbo jumbo.
I accept and support his other qualities and abilities and want to be able to give him my vote.

wexlady41: Yeah she's one of these people who hug the altar rails and then looks down her nose at anyone who isn't rich enough, pretty enough, catholic enough or who is what SHE perceives to be a lesser person than she perceives herself to be.

Not much we can do about people like her... believe me I've tried.

if you join his page on FB i believe there is a copy of the transcript..... His actions over the years would lead me to believe mor ethan a few ill chosen or misquoted words... that said everyone is entitled to feel whatever way they wish... For me however if he is not at least on the ticket for the election then , There will have been the biggest miscarraige of democracy ever in this country... let US THE PEOPLE decide if he goes to the Park.... and not the politicans who have ulterior motives

Absolutely agree with you on that one, he has to be on the ballot paper......I want to be able to have the choice of voting for him or not.
If we don't have that choice then its a failure of politics.

Well i know i won't be voting for Michael D. Higgins anyway. When he was asked by Pat Kenny tonight, why he wanted to be president, he couldn't answer the question. He sounded like a real politician and i would think thats exactly the kind of person the public DON'T want to be president. Most of us have a gut full of them at this stage doh

Yep, he's just another politician alright.

Personally I'd love to see Bertie Ahern as president, he'd bring dignity to the office.

Did Norris manage to get the nomination of the required number of County Councils?

If he has and gets elected does that mean we will have a Queen?

Imagine if Queen Elizardbeast came back again, they could compare handbags! Lol
