It would be amazing to find your "the one" at all, really, if, like some say they even exist. I agree with you. We get so many chances, so many "do overs" with other important lessons in life, it would be sad to think we just get onc chance for love...... 
I understand how you feel....long story short, been there done that..."They" say you get over it...but each of us has our own timeline. I hope your time to heal is short and you find you're "the one" and life gives you another chance for happiness.... 
Speaking for myself, I don't think I GIVE MORE or are LESS selfish then when I'm in love.
I know several people (men and women) that have shut themselves off....I must say though, I understand it......
But I have a day long meeting tomorrow and I HAVE to get to be early....so, carry on and I'll come by tomorrow. Hope you all have a great day/afternoon/night..today/tomorrow......
