@Ia.. I totally agree with you've said.. If your religion is not telling you to be compassionate to all living things (including trees and plants) then there definitely is something wrong there.
Now that doesn't mean that cutting down trees for usage or slaughtering animals for food isn't being compassionate. All life has meaning. Cutting down trees needlessly or killing animals for sport would count as being cruel to me. But doing so for consumption would be fine as long as there is no wastage and is for survival.
Totally agree with that Molly.. but again its not religion that is the problem.. the problem is what is fed to us in the name of religion. I agree that we always have to keep our eyes open and and don't just feed off anyone blindly specially when our heart and mind tells us otherwise.
See the thing is that everything allows for good or bad interpretations.. even the stuff our moms would've taught us.. so ultimately its on us to educate ourselves and have some reason and logic without following anyone blindly including our parents.
In the end I think its a circular reference mate.. we could keep going round and round in this argument. Bottom line is that you cannot blame religion for being open to interpretation. The blame lays with people who either A) are ignorant and follow people with closed eyes and B) intentionally lead the ignorant people astray following their own bad intentions be it money or power or land what have you..
Personally I don't think there's anything wrong with religion.. its how the "Holy Men" tend to intentionally misinterpret the commandments and manipulate ignorant followers for their own ulterior motives is what causes problems. The definition of "Holy Men" could be extended to what has been mentioned above.
Wow.. I'm truly amazed at the level of info being shared here.. maybe the level of ignorance I'm used to is restricted to the US (don't mean to hurt anyone but that has been my experience so far).
The media, in my opinion, generally plays to the hands of the biggest mafias of the world.. pharmaceuticals and arms industry. They make us believe and think exactly what they want (like the pied piper) and we follow them with our eyes closed. How do we break away from the trance?
You are a fighter LJ.. I'll give you that.. Its not easy to have a bout with any kind of cancer and having to be able to say you've fought it twice is something truly exceptional.
I wish you a significantly healthier, longer, peaceful and, not to mention, an adventurous life! God Bless..
Thanks LJ.. Sorry to sidetrack from the topic but I'm really getting used to all the warm "welcomes".. it feels nice and speaks loads about the people here in Blog Land..
Nice Blog Scotty.. I've been around for a couple of days looking at various blogs/forums however nothing actually compelled me to write.. till now.
Its amazing how variable and yet intriguing everyone's response is. You "regulars" make up a nice bunch and I must say, given the diversified background of people, the level of camaraderie I see here is quite pleasing.
Anyhow, sticking to the topic.. I guess if I had to treat only myself to one amazing thing it would have to be taking a long, romantic, luxurious cruise out in the open sea with someone special.
I'd say that it actually is a beginner's fitness routine. However it being your first day after a very long break probably would've made it seem otherwise. You'll agree once you manage to push yourself through it for 2 to 4 weeks. (depending on your age and fitness level)
