@fluer: as regards Indonesians, they have a history of Dutch Bule Indonesian mixing. The result of this mixing, on average are rather aesthetically pleasing to many of them. Remember, East Asian people are noted for skin colour issues. Many of their idols are pale faced Korean or Japanses Celebrities. ON the other hand they will look down upon darker skinned people even of their own country.. (rural lifestyle etc) In Ireland women buy fake tan. In large parts of East and South East Asia women buy skin whiteners.

fleur, I guess it might have to do with the fact that its easier to say white men.
Its pretty standard if you says asian girl, everyone knows how that looks like more or less, if you say african man, you know they refer to a black man. Those are very easy. If you talk about white man, you group together european and american. Sure she could have used caucasian.. but well i wouldn't use that word either, since the word "white" types easier and everyone knows who i would mean by that.

Well, I try to distinguish Asian between East/South East Asian, and Sub Continental Asian. Sometimes in writing people can get confused depending on context.

MD, i'm fairly good at guessing what country asians are from... but i would need to look at the worldmap many times to be sure where the country is located.. North and south america, and europe i have pretty much in my head.. africa and asia... needs more study

Yeah. I'll give you an example, in the UK if someone used the term Asian they would almost certainly be referring to someone from India/Pakistan - Sub Continental Asians. IN the US I guess that when you say Asian, they mostly would be referring to people from South East Asia or East Asia.
