Rule 1: Don't Panic
Rule 2: Forget about anything that happens that you don't like. It will just haunt your mind the next time, and there will be a next time.
Rule 3: Open the conversation with a comment about a shared circumstance like "Gee this registration line is slow", or "Gosh I'm so excited to be here. Are you?"
Rule 4: Make eye contact using big, moony eyes. This seems to work on guys.
Rule 5: Practice to help build your confidence.

If he doesn't respond favorably, remember rules 1 and 2.
