When we have a secular desires, want more power, want to be served and not served, it will be very easily lead to bad things we say and exclude others. Jealousy and envy also makes people do so. All of us know this. It happens in all organizations of the Church: the parish, school, diocesan and even the bishops. The desire of the spirit is the spirit of the world's wealth, the fame and frivolous. Jesus taught humility in service, but the disciples arguing about who was the greatest of them. Jesus came to this earth to serve and he teaches us the way of serving, of humility.
So loved the world that hates God
When the great saint said they felt very guilty, it is because they understand the spirit world exists in their souls, and they are more tempted by that spirit. None of us can say: I am holy. I am clean.
All of us are tempted by the spirit world. We are tempted to exclude others to climb even the high value.
