There is a difference between a 12 line poem and a 75,000 word book.
I'd not pay 15 quid for someone to read my poem.
I'd pay a lot more for a proofreader! Remember, you're paying them once, but (hopefully) selling, not just THIS book, bu the next one(s) also. If your current work is substandard, then, by default, so are your others...
Also, as I said, Publishing houses will cover that cost - hence the % - but they also assume a lot of the risk...
And, if I'm even sending in an MMS to a publisher, I pay to have this proofread. Again - 1 payment - a few dozen publishers.
Isn't that always the way @biff. And rhe later writeup based on what you remember is never even close to the image that slapped tou firmly between the eyes.
@Usha. Thanks for stopping by. I often say that the phones are getting smarter whilst the owners are getting dumber. I'm happy to meet someone who thinks the same way.
In fairness to the others, the first colour was dayglo and the second poster was just being a minx, I think.
