Seriously, the pic is important to attract someone and have them to go out on a limb and drop you a line. So I suggest you to pick a great picture of yours, upload it and see how much it changes! I don't consider myself shallow just because I search only women with a picture, nor I consider shallow a woman refusing to answer back to me just because she doesn't like my face. After all this is a dating site, don't forget it. Men and women trying to attract each other, right? Yes, you always can sneak around the dating thing and stick to pure friendship, penpals or something. But if you really wanted to make only friends, why did you chose a dating site and not other internet groups or something?
No fear. If rejected, I don't take it personally. Anyway, being rejected is never pleasant. To increase my chances of succeeding and avoiding rejection, I personally try to read her body language beforehand. I usually approach her with a neutral talk and start reading her body language. If I see there's room for moving further, then I talk about something else uncovering my goal little by little, while I keep on reading. And so on, till asking her out on a date. It usually works. Nonetheless, I appreciate when a woman makes the first move. Not because I am shy and I fear her rejection, but because I love women that are brave, bold, enterprising...
