When it comes to a partner, physical appearance is not nearly as important to me as physical fitness. My partner would have to be physically fit and preferably weigh no more than me. They could, as I do, eat like a horse, but I would not have a relationship with an overweight person.
The moral fervour of Puritanism which sacks other churches, the Red Guard with its little red book in hand brutalizing intellectuals, or even in Phiadelphia, the old saying that Quakers came to do good, and did very well indeed.
Yes Riya, thats what was meant by spirit, zest for life, vigour, motivation. How far and with how much purpose can we travel when our spirit suffers hurt? Our spirit drives us forward, but can be fickle and can be sensitive, especially to the sometimes unrealistic demands of the ego.
When anything, even a good thing becomes one-sided and excludes its opposite, the demonic enters in. Even goodness can become demonic when we are possessed by it.
When the ego suffers hurt, we may become dispirited, lose the energy for the journey. If we say he's a spirited person, are we not usually talking of someone who's ego drives them forward. I think spirit and ego are intrinsically bound together.
All three I didn't question, then as I grew older, logic kicked in and I dismissed them all as hogwash. You see, it became obvious that old Santa coudln't possibly visit every childs home in just one night...someone was telling 'porkies' Similarly, it became obvious that this God fella couldn't possibly hear everyones prayers, let alone keep a check on everyone's conduct, good or bad. Dont do that I was told, God is watching and you'll go to hell, I laughed it off. I'm still not sure how he can manage this, logic says its impossible, can someone enlighten me?
Having said that, I think you would find it easier to convince me of the Tooth Fairy.
