RE: Movie Reviews

Today I went to see Great Expectations. I have seen about 6 versions during my life. It's one of my favourite stories by Charles Dickens. This new version was really great. It brought tears to my eyes in some parts. Worth watching.

RE: What’s with all the road death?

Agree with you Wash, lots of accidents occur close to home. Mine did just a few days ago--rammed a dark blue car...did not see it on the roundabout. Come to think of it most of my bingles were all close to home. That is why I wrote about making mistakes in another thread. It's quite a shock when it happens.

RE: Two teens killed in Swanston Street

I agree with you curly28, but we must give the young ones a go. Otherwise how is everything going to continue. "Practice makes perfect".Also building codes of the past are quite different to present. I believe that the codes have improved and much better than past. Especially with the new Health and Safety rules affecting all work in all fields.

RE: Two teens killed in Swanston Street

Sorry Obscuritan, misunderstood you explanation, Wash explained it also and much later I understood......."the penny dropped".

RE: ARE YOU A CRIER? I AM, I CRY EASILY FOR OTHERS

Crying is good for us psychologically. As long as we don't go overboard. To much of it can make us depressed. A healthy balance is best.A lot of research has been done on "laughing". Researchers have worked out that at least 10min.every day of deep laughing(not cheesy grins)is extremely healthy and can, to some extent, reverse depression. So reading funny books, watching funny dvds, jokes,or whatever are excellent for us.The more we laugh the happier we become. The old saying"laughter is the best medicine"is so true.

RE: Alireza711

Curly 28, You seem to be having a great time---good on you. Can you please tell me where you are. The background is intriguing---a garden??? wonderful plants.

RE: Tina Turner to wed

Best of Luck to both of them. A great singer. dance party

RE: Two teens killed in Swanston Street

Thanks wash2u, this relieves my mind.

RE: Alireza711

True, true Wash2U, we never stop learning and making mistakes. This makes me feel better. There is so much to learn. Thanks

RE: Alireza711

Thanks Merriweather, I will find it on google and try to learn some and maybe surprise my friend, next time I see her. She chants some of the prayers. Sounds beautiful. I learnt to chant one short prayer(2short lines) that another friend taught me over the phone. I spent 2 weeks on the phone getting the sounds, words, speed etc.15min. each time, she rang me. I had to copy her. She also gave me a link to arabic or farsi chanting on a you tube. That gave me the idea of how I could chant it. The group was impressed. Now I have forgotten everything --must find the words and practice it again. It's worth doing.

RE: The sound engineer - part 2

sorry revealer24,could not find the play button, but found it today. I'm not that great with computers. I am gradually getting there.

RE: Two teens killed in Swanston Street

Thanks Obscuritan, How terrible, it can happen anywhere if the brick layers/ builders, took short cuts or ran out of materials / weak foundations etc.

RE: Two teens killed in Swanston Street

How terrible---I lived in that area during my early life. Another freaky accident.blues sad flower

RE: Two teens killed in Swanston Street

Extremely sad for families, friends of the the 2 poor kids. My heart goes out to them. I would not be able to cope if it happened to my kids. Us Melbourneians would have walked there many a time. I always believed in bricks and mortar to be the safest structure. Just a freaky accident. crying sad flower

RE: Plans for Easter long weekend?

Who do you barrack for??? I hope the tiger make some progress this year. I also barrack for Hawthorn. We almost won last year.

RE: Welcome Stranger Gold Nugget

Thanks robplum
Warrandyte was a gold mining town in the past. The area does have the clay, marble rocks. It also has some deep caves where gold was dug out. Must try out the panning. I will be quite thrilled just to find a few small ones.

RE: Welcome Stranger Gold Nugget

wow!!!you are very fortunate. Good idea to have heirlooms. I suppose it is difficult to find these here, close to Melbourne---Or is it??? Warrandyte and it's surrounding areas was supposed to have had gold in the past. There are some actual caves where gold was dug out---most likely in the gold rush era. I have never seen anyone panning for gold now. But I will give it another go. Where would you find the precious stones, close to Melbourne?

RE: Alireza711

I am another friend of merriweather---lovely person. Welcome to our forum.

RE: Alireza711

thumbs up thumbs up Great Wash2u,
I wonder if this also applies, to my belief, that "the day I stop making mistakes is the day I stop".

RE: Alireza711

I agree with you Merriweather. I have a few Iranian friends (women) who live close to me. I did hear my friend say that she speaks Farsi, plus a few other languages, very well. Never knew what she was talking about. Now I know.
Must ask her to teach me some, just for conversations. We see each other almost fortnightly. Absolutely lovely people.

RE: Welcome Stranger Gold Nugget

Thanks for your advice Micky63. I would only keep beautiful precious stones or gold nuggets if I found them from the ground myself. I would never buy them---don't have the money. I remember years ago going to a place that was supposed to have gems. I was terribly disappointed not finding anything. There were so many pebbles and grit. It was like trying to find a needle in a haystack. I also remember panning for gold in the Yarra River at Warrandyte, when my children were little, just for the sake of the experience and also hoping "we might strike it rich". Again we found nothing. After watching a video on fossil bones---Kew was mentioned. So we attempted to find some kind of fossils along the cliffs. We could not find any. However one day while we were walking along the beach we found a large rock with a carving of a fish and some lines.Could be a fossil rock,(possibly from Kilcunda beach). I still have that rock. Now I need to study it. These are some reminiscence of my happy past.

RE: Happy Good Friday

I am here Micky, didn't go away. It reminded me of catching fresh fish on Phillip Island and eating it that same night or next day.My ex used to fillet and I used to scale, clean and take the bones out of the fish that could not be filleted. The taste was superb. We used to catch King George Whiting, snapper, trevally and leather jackets. This was when I was happily married. I agree with you I would not be eating fish from rivers--- definitely no no.I was not sure where you caught the fish. Thanks for the link now I know. I am afraid I haven't traveled much.

RE: The sound engineer - part 2

I couldn't hear the link you gave us revealer24.However, without good synchronized music, it would sound sh......y, like nails scratching on the blackboard. thumbs up thumbs up thumbs up thumbs up TO SOUND ENGINEERS AND ALL OTHER ENGINEERS. Would this modern world exist without our engineers???

RE: Welcome Stranger Gold Nugget

Just to find a gold nugget or even precious stones would make my dreams come true. My soft spot for precious stones are, sapphire, diamonds, rubies and pearls.I would keep them in their original condition until you desperately need to sell them. Surely they would go up in value, like antiquated cars or collectors items. WHAT A DREAM!!!angel2 angel2 angel2

RE: The sound engineer - part 1

Movies and Dvds would be rather boring and unpleasant to my ears(like scratching nails on the blackboard) without the careful selection of synchronized music to suit the scenes. Even with excellent acting, the movies, just wouldn't be right without good music. The same would be with cds.GREAT WORKS SOUND ENGINEERS!!! thumbs up thumbs up

RE: ahem....scrunch or fold?

I purchased several shirts/blouses/ that don't need to be ironed. They remain looking scrunched. The label even advises to scrunch the garments and also has a diagram of how to do it.I tried ironing one of these garments and the creases would not iron. Great domestic invention!! Just hope the fashion doesn't change to quickly!!! Also many garments can fit into a suitcase when scrunched. Not so sure about mens clothes.thumbs up thumbs up

RE: Happy Good Friday

You certainly are having a good time Mickyj63. Nothing better than catching fresh fish.Taste is superb, better than bought fish that has been defrosted from supermarkets.thumbs up thumbs up Hope you catch more during the Easter break.
