RE: What is the government? - definition

I opened up my old faithful dictionary about the definition of government:
(1) system of governing, form of organization of State.
(2) body of successive bodies of persons governing a State; the State as an agent;an administrative or ministry; Form a G.. of government(of Prime Minister selecting colleagues).
(3) (Gram.)relation between governing and governed word
(4) act, manner, or fact, of governing.

RE: What is the government? - definition

Nothing wrong with a public educ. Many still retain their jobs....good indication that the system works/worked well for many people.handshake

RE: What is the government? - definition

The parents do pay.....in some schools quite a lot of money. However without the gov. subsidies many would collapse. A couple of private schools around Melbourne, recently closed down even with gov. pumping money into these schools.

RE: What is the government? - definition

Good point Wash, I agree with you about the garbos/roads. But surely a portion of the rates, goes to retirement packages of council workers etc. some of these packages are very large depending on how much money some councillors are earning...especially eg. Mayor. Also insurance, and legal costs when councils lose court cases over building permits that they reject. Councillor told me rates are reviewed every 2 years. When a housing boom occurs.....rates will definitely rise steeply.

RE: What is the government? - definition

Terrible isn't it, when we have a 3 tier government....council, state & Federal. Compulsory voting still exists in all 3 governments.......all ripping us off in as many ways as possible.

However in saying this I am glad of gov. subsidies on medicine....lots of us would not be able to afford the cost of the special medicines that many of us have to take daily, which cost an enormous amount of money. Also government subsidies on health care and schools/uni.and other areas also. THANK YOU AUSTRALIA

RE: What is the government? - definition

Some people did take a council to court over the outrageous council rates in one of the Melbourne suburbs. Unfortunately they lost. The council was able to prove that they did not misuse the money.....had legitimate rights over the expenditure....Poor people had to pay all court costs. Far to difficult and expensive to fight them.

Hi Prowler, I thought you had gone for a holiday somewhere!!! Have you ever thought of printing them.... or writing them into blogs/etc.....if you have enough of them. And if you write some newer ones.(p.s...not joking).....talented.......never know what it could lead to.(I've been reading some success... stories......)

RE: Would aliens have money?

Could lead to equality and unity of mankind....no wars/internal fighting/destruction necessary----everything would be shared equally. As long as it is different to communism. What about religion....some rules would need to be set out,so that there is no disputes...also allows freedom for athiests. Lots of other areas could be ironed out too. Could become a wonderful planet to live in.lightbulb lightbulb very happy very happy

RE: Syria in ruins

Hurrah!!! PEACE TALKS BETWEEN ISRAEL & PALESTINIANS HAVE STARTED.

Let's hope they get it right....this time.

RE: Syria in ruins

It's ghastly, wars are so destructive. .... Hopefully, one day the fighting/destruction will be over.... Some thoughts came into my mind.. I wonder who is going to contribute to the cost of re-building the city/country? ......Will some people sue the countries involved in the destruction. How will those countries respond?

RE: Would aliens have money?

If inflation could be controlled in some way. What about profits/loss of business owners/taxes that they pay.. PAYG. However once thought out....could be a manageable system. I wonder........

RE: Syria in ruins

Tony, you are a great stirrer. I just find it good to express some opinions. It's wonderful when people answer....a flow of opinions occurs with many free links. I think this is a great site...I'm glad I found this site by chance.

RE: Syria in ruins

Thanks for answering my thread Tony. Unfortunately the flood will most likely not occur. Peaceful solutions and fairness can still be achievable...by world leaders. They need to keep trying until they succeed. This is my opinion.

RE: Syria in ruins

A war never ends all wars-- tonyxf. After WW1 and WW11, there were still many wars around the world. World Wars only solve some problems and create many others, including present times. What we need is PEACE.... however no world leader have succeeded yet..... must be very difficult to consider so many people (billions) and still growing.

RE: What do you think of the theory of evolution by natural selection, do you think it's correct?

Sorry Obsuritan, my predictions are wrong.....to hasty. I read an article in the age or australian years ago, on human evolution in future.I was quoting some of article from that newspaper. Trying to find the article...have not succeeded yet.May not be able to find it either. Please cancel both quotes on my predictions. However I still believe in Evolution... theories makes so much sense, rather than creation.
