Maybe I am a bit thick here...you are a 52 year old man, no photo and you say mature women chase after you? What is a mature woman in your eyes? 75? 'Mature women chasing after you....mmmmm i think it is just a case of a woman your age contacting you....rather than this chasing bit...or maybe you like to think they chase? Maybe you can elaborate on this for me?
In any case the subject was about young men chasing after mature women, not about mature men etc....
Hi Weddy, thought this would be a serious topic, but reading thru the comments.....alas....
Here in Spain the recession has really set in, people have lost their jobs with companies going bust or laying off people. People still in jobs find they don't get paid or get paid late. The end result is they cannot pay their mortgages or their rent. Whole families find themselves on the streets or surviving with very little money indeed. Yesterday had coffee with a friend who was going to put 8 (!) euros in her petrol tank, simply because she could not afford more. Her husband was still employed but had not been paid for months....and if he would leave the company (Real Estate) he would lose his job and get nothing for sure...so he had to stay and hope they would sort themselves out.
Properties do not get sold as there are only bargain hunters out there who offer HALF of the asking price, and this with the asking price often already a lot lower than the original one a year ago....
People I meet who come out on holiday here (I work in the Marketing Dept at a Marriott resort) complain bitterly about the expensive living cost and the poor exchange rate. Especially the Americans and the English are finding their money does not go very far at all. They say they would not be able to afford coming back at this rate...
This year is going to be pure survival for a lot of us, I can only hope things will get better in 2010.
Is this situation going to be a wake-up call??? Or just another crisis??
Yes, you are right, the Dutch subtitle ALL their films, documentaries, cartoons, everything, so we are already familiar with the sound of other languages from the moment we watch TV. This helps a lot!
Sorry, maybe I was not clear myself, the bit I disagree with is: I do not think that age is a prevention against learning a new language.
I do feel that age prevents us from learning new languages, not that it is impossible but certainly much harder. However, this goes for anything we learn when we are older.
If I speak 5 languages it is purely because us Dutch, we have no choice, not many people speak our language..lol...
I do not think that age is a prevention against learning a new language.
If you have an ear for a new language then it is easier, also if you understand your mother tongue it is easier.
Yes, it is easier for a child to learn a language, as their processing levels are higher than that of an adult, we tend to stick with what we know.
(Quote from Sommerauer71)
I have to disagree. I speak 5 languages so feel reasonably licensed to comment on the subject.
Yes, it is much harder to retain the information as you get older. If it was not I would probably have learned a few more languages just for the sake of it. I tried to learn Italian once but gave up because all of a sudden it seemed such hard work to remember what I had learned. Now I find I am fluent in Dutch, English and Spanish but am forgetting my French and German as I do not use it as much.
Another important point; people do have a tendency to lean towards A or B subjects....my daughter and I are great at languages but don't ask us to work out maths sums, my son does not like languages although he speaks them...but he is totally computer literate and can work out any formula.
I think what matters is that you show an effort. It is lack of respect to the people in the country you live in to not at least try to learn their language.
Just got this message from a gorgeous 33 year old from California:
DEAR PEGGY,
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR COMPLIMENT, BUT I MUST SAY THAT YOU ARE KILLING ME WITH THE 'VIRTUAL THING'.
IF WE JUST HAVE LITTLE BIT OF COURAGE AND WILLINGNESS, WE CAN MAKE IT HAPPENED. I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT BREAKFAST AND A WEEK STANDS, I AM TALKING ABOUT KILLER FOOT MASSAGES, SOAKED BODIES, LOVE AND RESPECT TILL THE REST OF OUR DAYS.
P.S. I AM SURE THAT YOU'LL NOT MIND YOUNGER ON TOP AND ALL OVER YOU GRRRRRRRR..
WITH PASSIONATE AFFECTION,
MIRASH
So what do you think, Lago....should I move to the States?
Cristina has hit the nail on the head...or should I rephrase that
I think we need to give the poor man some REAL advice here:
Women need to guide you, they need to tell you if you are going the right way...lol....no seriously, they need to tell you how they like it, where and how long etc etc....
If they do not bother giving you this information it will be very hard for you to do it 'right'
Why are so many young men interested in 'older' women these days?
Hey don't be so booooooring.....it's only you and me on this Forum now
Mmmmmmm so you shaved.....well, you may thank me for it one day...lot more sensitivity there now
