11 and 12 should be attached as a yellow post-it to any and all good advice.
How about: NOTE TO THE OPTIMIST, PESSIMIST AND REALIST. While you were debating whether the glass was half full, half empty or perfectly 50%, I drank the water and left.
This is a little long, and it's been mentioned before, but if you take the time to read each line - it covers a lot. I've hung it up everywhere I've lived.
DESIDERATA
Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and ignorant; they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble, it's a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself.
Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment, it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive him to be.
And whatever your labours and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.
Less of it now!! Though I am growing carrots and onions, make of them what you will. Don't know what a hood sharer is, is it like sitting beside someone on the bonnet of a car?
I'd say it is, but seeing as you have this glass house, would you mind looking after a few of my veggies while the cold weather's still going? Considering that we could be part of a hippy vibe brother/sisterhood type thing?
You excel at taking risks so, also with the wisdom. . almost like Yoda. .
I've decided to read your next few posts in an internal Yoda voice. Let's see. . ." Try!? There is no try! Do . . or do not. That is the way of the Jedi".
Yes, I do of course. But everything good and bad has a price or a risk involved, and we all have to be willing to pay for it or take it. Couldn't in good conscience call anyone a hippy right now, it would be a "people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones" kind of thing.
Not that time, for alas it was a Summer's love. . Before that, sort of, but not with the same intensity and certainty combined. I'd have to cautiously admit to a slight amount of cynicism for a while after that, but now I think of it differently, if you get me, with a sense of gratitude for the experience. Like, there's times that things happen, times they don't, that it's all cyclical really.
Great!! Can we whinge to anyone who'll listen and bring it up randomly all over the place in job interviews, while being arrested, and if we get in a car accident that's clearly our fault?
Jesus was in the desert for 40 days being tempted by Satan, so Lent commemorates this joyful occasion.
One thing about Catholicism, they always use words like "celebrate mass", "the good word", and "Christian holidays". To me, the whole thing seem to be about suffering and denial. Oh wait, the faithful are going to Heaven. . With the Christian concepts of joy and sin, heaven would be an awful dull place if indeed it existed.
Tell him you like his perfume and ask him where he gets it.
Try to fart audibly a few times, shows you're comfortable around him.
Talk about your kids and show alot of pictures. If you don't have kids, borrow pictures of a friends, or relatives kids and insist you're their favourite Aunt.
Stare at his shoes long enough for him to notice, then ask him how much they cost.
Tell him you never put out on the first date unless the guy is loaded. That way he knows you've got class.
Ask him where he sees himself in 5 years. Then ask him where he sees you in 5 years. That'll quickly clear up whether or not he has any psychic ability.
Tell him you don't expect a gift for Valentines Day, but that expensive gifts usually show that people care - follow that up with a long silence. Look at his shoes again if you must.
Make sure to tell him that you don't want to get tied down too soon - You usually leave the S+M for the third date.
I suppose I'd have to ask you which IRA do you mean? There's a load of splinter groups, some hardline, some more moderate.
In particular in the last few years, any republican activity gets massive bad press. Loyalist/British/Unionist activity barely gets a mention. Probably because the media up there is mainly British controlled. So I'm not sure which side has the most to answer for, because the media is biased in favour of the pro-British factions. Anyone trying to defend a republican point of view can quickly be labelled "pro-terrorist", thanks to the current: "Anyone who opposes the coalition is a terrorist", policy.
Regardless of the bad the IRA has done, think of the Catholics up North. The Protestants had the British Army and the RUC to protect them. The Catholics had no one, and it's not like they were flavour of the month with the Brits. They couldn't even get jobs, could be shot or burnt out of their homes for no reason. So the IRA, like Paisley was part of that time, and can't really be judged by today's standards. Hopefully soon such violence on both sides will become obsolete, thankfully it's moving forward well.
Wasn't a fan of Pat Kenny, thought he was crap on the Late Late. But after watching the Frontline a few times, I've come to respect him a bit.
I remember when Gaybo retired they were looking for someone to replace him on the Late Late, fairy sure PK didn't want the job but took it anyway. It never suited him, he's not a warm friendly person, he's an investigative journalist. He's gone back to his roots with the Frontline, and it suits him much better.
The show on fracking in Ireland earlier this week was good, at least both sides of the argument were represented fairly.
The head was like this when I got it, so I'll have to assume it's doing what it should. On the other hand, I did get the stork thing as well, so I could end up in the cell next to you.
Does look pretty cool, alot classier than the drill, screw and pliers combo. .
An interesting article, possibly part of a larger phenomena.
Is the author really saying that autism doesn't exist? From reading it, he seems to have issues with ASD and ADHD - both newer "illnesses". You know, if a kid doesn't want to pay attention in school, or talks alot to his classmates during class, and doesn't want to do his homework, they can be diagnosed with ADHD and put on mind altering drugs. To me, those symptoms are all part of just being a kid.
In the States, rebellious teenagers are being diagnosed as Bi-polar, and it's recently become legal to diagnose 2 year olds as Bi-polar - in both cases, drugs are prescribed. Once again, mood swings are common in teenagers and toddlers, so the question of ACTUAL mental illness is raised.
So maybe what the author is trying to say, is that some kids are improperly diagnosed with these illnesses, and that SOME of the symptoms may not necessarily be those of an actual disease.

RE: THE CAR CHASE THREAD
Best one ever. Anyone who can watch the whole thing deserves my ever-lasting admiration.
