RE: Riots in England

Why are you talking about moaning kiwis? If Britain is so much better than here why are you still here ... are you one of those whinging poms who constantly talk about 'back home"? When was the last time you were back in the UK for any period of time? I am back once or twice a year for a few months at a time and it is nothing like it was in the 1980's.

RE: Poaching For Survival....Are We Back Where It All Began?

Thanks for that mental picture ...I was hoping for a head shot ... blues

RE: Riots in England

I hope you are not being sarcastic and I think the idea of them emigrating was suggested long ago ... remember the Rivers of Blood speech from Enoch Powell?? I would never defend any of those rioters but I am trying hard to understand why it is happening because it is only if we understand things can we work out how to avoid it happening again. I will be back in the UK next week for a few months ... I do have a good handle on what is going on over there but like everyone else I have no answers ... I don't sit sniping from the other side of the world with no emotional involvement ... I care very much what is happening ...my family and friends are living through it

RE: Riots in England

wish I could look at it and laugh ... there are still areas of the UK where they cannot sell the lamb because it has too high a radioactive level .... you would be surprised just how many professional people moved here from Europe because of that nuclear accident and the resulting contamination of food supplies ... no government is going to tell you the truth ... political suicide is not an option for a career politician ...

RE: Riots in England

The move to NZ was prompted by the Chernobyl disaster and the UK government's handling of information to the general public ... they lied to us and told us we were getting no nuclear fall-out ... my sister in law was a secretary for a very large agricultural estate in East Anglia and phoned me to tell me that they were being told to dump all the vegetables and milk ... why ?? I lived in an area where my water supply was groundwater from East Anglia ... was someone protecting that ?? No I wanted to bring my children to a country with the same values I hold ... a nuclear free country ... even though it cost NZ much in the way of trade sanctions by the USA to punish NZ for not allowing their nuclear powered ships into NZ waters and harbours. ... NZ isn't perfect but it's a damned sight fairer and more egalitarian than Britain...

RE: Poaching For Survival....Are We Back Where It All Began?

maybe a lot of people think having a gun will make them safer in the times to come ... and have you tried hunting with a bow and arrow ?? it is a particularly cruel way to hunt because a fast kill is highly unlikely ...

RE: Riots in England

they can use mobile phones and have a lot of natural cunning and maybe they are not totally thick .. but they are not outwitting the police ... the police do not have the numbers to deal with them ... they need to bring in the army ... those that aren't off fighting an illegal war with out of date equipment ... the police are forming cordons around the Olympic facilities to keep them safe ... sod peoples homes and businesses ... just keep the Olympic infrastructure intact ... I get a lot of information from friends who are in the middle of this mess .. my daughter is in the middle of it all and so are her friends and my older friends in London are posting on facebook and telling me what is going on ... I have friends and family all over the UK and I know it is likely to kick off in every major city and town if it is not stopped soon ...

RE: Poaching For Survival....Are We Back Where It All Began?

I wonder if those looting in the UK look on themselves as poachers ... suppose they do in a way ... yes I think it will get a lot worse and there isn't any answer I can think of ... seems so negative to just keep on saying it's all so bad and it will get worse without having something positive to suggest but I have nothing to offer .. I can see why religion is the opiate of the masses ... what else is there ... it's hard being an atheist

RE: Riots in England

I agree ... but they obviously have never formulated any real political agenda .. and I doubt they would even understand the concept ... they are alienated from society and feel no connection to those around them ... they act only out of anger, resentment and feelings that they don't understand let alone know how to express ...

I think there is a very big elephant in the room and I have yet to hear any politician address it

The bottom line is this :

There are and always have been people who will never have the intelligence to be able to take advantage of tertiary education. They are no less valuable and deserve the same respect as everyone else .. it is only by the luck of genetics that some people are more intelligent than others.

In the past when we needed those people to do manual labour and jobs were plentiful there was no problem. Now we have more automation, manufacturing has moved to countries where labour is cheaper and in Britain there has been an influx of labour from the poorer countries of the EEC.

There is no work available for these people and they are treated with no respect.

This isn't just a problem in Britain it is a problem in all industrial nations who have lost the jobs in manufacturing ... free trade and no tariffs sounded so fair but it has destroyed the manufacturing base and led to a lot of unemployment ...

I'm not highly educated and these are just my personal observations and I have no answers ... but I do think the fundamental problems are the ones that need to be addressed by politicians and there will need to be a big change in the financial and monetary system of the world in the very near future.

We need to start to manufacture within our own areas and buy food that is locally available ... the price of shipping goods around the world in both monetary and environmental costs is not sustainable.

I could go on but I had better leave it at that for now ...

RE: Wanted!!London Calling......Where Are The Huns??

ditto ...

RE: Would you kiss the person above you or pass? Part 2

I never mentioned anyone specifically but if you took the label and looks like you did ... you must feel a bit guilty moping lips

RE: Riots in England

I have my daughter working in central London and thank goodness her partner, who is a big hunk of a man, is there with her .. he went to collect her from work yesterday to make sure she got home safely. I am heartbroken to see what is happening to the land of my birth, I have felt the tension there on every visit for over ten years and it feels as there is a pent up anger underlying all of society.

Politics will never solve the problems because they are far more deep rooted than mere politics ... it is a sense of having no real control over your future, the pensioners have lost their hard earned money in the collapse of banks and building societies and the young married couples can only exist on credit and are up to their ears in debt. The young people, even those with qualifications, are jobless and see no hope for their future.

You talk to the young and old alike and they all feel the same ... they feel like they are having their lives controlled by faceless men who sit on the boards of multinational companies and who play with the economies of whole countries in order to benefit themselves ... these kids watch all the conspiracy theory programs and know that something is going on and they are just pawns in the game.

RE: Would you kiss the person above you or pass? Part 2

lips and remember ... no tongue

RE: Would you kiss the person above you or pass? Part 2

so do we get a choice of what sort of kiss ? lips and where ?

RE: Riots in England

It doesn't matter which budget the cost comes out of ... it all comes from taxation ... and that doesn't affect the rioters ... they are the jobless, hopeless, disenfranchised youth who feel no connection to community or society in general ... huge cut-backs in public spending, to cover the cost of bailing out the banks, have led to less help for those jobless young people. As always the rich get richer and the poor working class will pay the bills and try to clean up the mess.

RE: The Long Goodbye: The Never-Ending Virtual Romantic Relationship

OK Ambrose ... you two have obviously said all that is ever going to be said that could be positive in your relationship ... move on man and drop this thread and start living a life without constant harping back to what if and what mistakes you made ... you've obviously worked it all out in your head now and know what was wrong with how you handled things so get on with it and get a life ... and start to enjoy it again ...joy joy joy joy

RE: Not as old as you say

Cannot disagree on that ..

just cannot help finding those beautiful young men far more attractive than a man who says he is my age and looks like my father ... and no I do not think of myself as a cougar ... stupid name .. maybe those men are actually a lot older and just telling lies or they have lived very hard lives, they abused their bodies, they just don't take care of themselves or have been very unlucky in their genetics sigh

RE: Attention Mr. Greg Campbell
